I've heard that a new Bulgarian Dental Clinic has opened in Bishopstown. Does anybody know anything about it? Prices? Reliability? Not sure whether to take the risk or not.:)

A woman I work with is having a lot of work done there at the moment as it's about half the price she was quoted by her regular dentist here. She says so far so good (work isn't finished yet!) and that they're very professional etc. I don't know about their day to day dentistry - her stuff is more specialised but she's delighted with them so far.

Would they not have to be registered as a dentist here to be allowed practice?

Are they doing the work in Bishopstown or do you have to go to Hungary to get it done?
If there doing the work here how can they be so cheap?

It's done in their surgery in Bishopstown. Opposite the Texaco service station that closed a while back.

If the price sounds too good to be true, it's probably best to do a bit of research on their licenses/qualifications.

Don't judge everyone by your own standards ;)

It's near the pharmacy if that's more respectable!

I would assume that irish dentists charge very high rates. So if they are from Hungary they could charge half the price, possibly even quarter, yet still make a big profit.

Thanks for all the replies, folks. Still not sure whether I should chance it or not.:)

I dunno to be honest, got some dental work done earlier in the year, for what he charges hourly when you factor in his rent / mortgage etc, the receptionist wage, the nurses wage. It's not out of the way really.

Dental work in most civilized european countries is either free or heavily subsidised. That's why it appears expensive. Also our culture of suing everything that moves means hefty insurance premiums.

I would say when they get their first claims because little Mary's braces embarrassed her in school or whatever they will rethink their pricing structure.

    Has anyone gone there yet?
I'm thinking of popping out there to get a quote on an implant.

    hi
I have been to this dentist and i would not reccomend them but my mother also went there and she was the one who recommended it to me.

She had a crown done. I went for a root canal.

If you are going there ask for the man . this is the one my mother had and she had good work done.

I got the woman dentist and i had a awful time.
I went on friday last as i was in a lot of pain and so she started the procedure . All the while she and here assistant were chatting and laughing in hungarian which was very off putting. They never explained what they were doing at any time not even to say they were finished ! I asked what i was to do as i was still in a lot of pain after the needles and everything and then she told me to make another appointment as they werent finished the job. I made my way back out to reception and the assistant jumped in front of me and closed the door and said pay now here. I had to give her 150 euro before she would let me leave which was a half now payment even though a root canal was priced at 140 euro. I made another app for Wednesday but Friday i went to SouthDoc for pain relief and Saturday i rang the surgery and she was very short with me on the phone saying i should expect pain for a few days and to take neurofen . THe southdoc had given me a morphine injection and i was still in pain. Ended up going to the hospital where a lovely dentist saw me even tho he was not supposed to deal with toothache and he told me my tooth was riddled in abcesses and he took it out for me with the pain instantly gone.

So the short version i would not recommend them to anyone especially the woman dentist but as i said it was my own mother who recommended them to me. And they bump up the price in there so it wouldn't be a whole lot different to your regular dentist.

Are you asking a question or telling us of your experiences. Their website is a bit of confusion: €100 retainer: and then regular prices if the specialist has to step in and if both work on you out's more again.

Perhaps for a first visit there is no benefit but maybe a €10 filling or €20 extraction thereafter, done by students only, might be attractive.

it was a rhetorical question. it's quite surprising the amount of people in cork, esp around bishopstown and wilton that don't know about it. i was a student there once.
if you have to be seen by a specialist, then there's a reason for it. normal, routine stuff can be done by a student. unless things have changed since i was there, a student can work with a specialist as a demonstrator and patients still get charged the regular amount. the work would still be top quality.

Yes, the place has kept quite a low profile. You're correct here. It gets mentioned from time to time, not often but even less report being there and those that had been were many years ago.

    Thanks.
