I'm in the market for a small van. I've heard the opel combo 1.3 van is good on diesel. Could anyone who owns one tell me how many MPG does it do and whether its a reliable van or not.

I know 2 people that had them 1 was a heartbreaker and the other one was treated like crap and only gave up the ghost when it payed a ditch a visit, also many people I know advised to stay away from the 1.3 and go for the 1.7 instead

Is it because of power or mechanically that they prefer the 1.7. I'm not interested in power or speed, just something to get me from A to B

I think it was more down to reliability, the 1.7 if im right is an Isuzu unit and has been around for donkeys years and used in many a motor so lots of the flaws were ironed out, where as the 1.3 was a new engine I think at the time the combo was released

i'm driving a 06 1.3 combo a couple of years now, only things that went on me was the dual mass flywheel and a front wheel bearing,i've seen over 850km covered to a tank of diesel when driven handy, when pushing on theres plenty of poke for overtaking.overall i'm fairly happy with it

1.3 CDTi is a Fiat engine whereas the 1.7 CDTi is an Isuzu derived engine.

Had a loan of a 1.3 CDTi for a month about 2 years ago, it's owner gave it dogs abuse and it had a coolant leak somewhere. Would not win any races and found it good enough on fuel. I heard from it's owner that it imploded there a few months ago and has been scrapped. Just be careful what your looking at, lots of abused POS out there for sale.
