"Undocumented " Irish living in America don't have any rights per say so basically your friend will probably have to go down the same route working out the pros n cons if its worth it .....
    My advice would be,
Just think of it as though your friend was entering some kind of "witness protection program"

He/she/they would have to Severe ALL contact with Ireland that way the banks/lawyers can't hunt you down

Someone will end up paying at the end of the day ..

    TAXPAYERS

Tad dramatic there, sever all ties etc. pure rubbish. If you have money you pay if you don't you don't pay. Simple no matter where you reside. Trying to enforce any debt in the USA would be difficult, but no reason why a debtor can not visit ireland when ever they wish.

What country and era are you living in, your family are not liable for your debts unless they signed personal guarantees. Otherwise the bank would be told to pfo.

you are trying to tar this family with the same brush as you use on drumm seanie fingers and their aquaintences, lets not forget the quinns, if every ordinary homeowner done a runner, they would not rake up a debt like the above has done.

So they wont be able to have a bank account or a business for hmmm i dunno 12 years, m'eh.

A friend of mine did this. She's American. Bought a house at the top of the boom, borrowed heavily at the insistence of her dickhead partner, who agreed to go halves - turned a two up two down into a one bed swank pad.

DIckhead partner screws her over, she's left with the debt and about 140k he owes her.

    She loses her job.

Finds new job in US - keys in mailbox - airport - plane - G'morning USA.

As far as I know (haven't had much contact) she has not been contacted.

Question is, how much debt is worth looking over your shoulder for the rest of your life.

As to the kids not wanting to move, the other question is do they want to be paying off the interest when the parents are long gone?

I'm sick of hearing this rubbish. Nobody has forced anybody in this country to apply for a mortgage and buy a house. I have sympathy for people who naively paid crazy sums for their house and now due to job losses etc cannot pay their mortgage.

But all these other fcukers who have jobs, that just want to run away from their financial responsibilities can suck my balls. You applied, you agreed, you signed, you accepted....now dry your eyes.

Anyone else notice lots of people spelling debt as "dept" on boards recently?

Not having a go, just noting a weird coincidence.

F*ck that. We all end up paying his mortgage then. Ultimately there has to be some kind of personal responsibility for the choices made by people during the Celtic Tiger.

And before we finish lynching the monster can we also stick him for the €40 odd billion bank debt too....

I would have thought the reason our bankers are taking home in excess of €700,000 p/a of taxpayers money was (thats €1917.00 a day) to decide who can and who cant affoard to pay back that money, alas those decisions were replaced with a thirst for greed.

I agree with you that there has to be some kind of personal responsibility for the choices made by people during the Celtic Tiger.

And as far as i remember it always takes two to tango.

Out of curiosity how many bankers are actually taking home in excess of €700k of taxpayers money??

Yes, the next of kin has to pay the remainder of any debt

Say if i fella gets 25 years for murder. If he dies, they lock up his missus, if she dies they lock up the oldest child even its a baby

If they have no children they go after the dog or cat

I am not sure, but i think if no animals, they go after the neighbours.

But only the next door neighbours NOT the ones across the road

If you are living across the road you are sound as a bell
