Been meaning to start this thread for a while. It's for people not famous enough to get their own RIP thread.

Richard Griffiths, one of Britain’s most celebrated character actors, has died from complications following heart surgery.

The stage and screen star, who played Uncle Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter films, was 65.

Fay Kanin, an Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning screenwriter, died Wednesday of natural causes. She was 95.

Jess Franco died 2nd April at the age of 82. The director of 199 films of which 35% were lesbian vampire flicks, well maybe it was only a bout 10% in reality! ;) was still working until last year.

Uncle Jess was a genre all on his own . I'm a big fan of his despite the fact he made more than his fair share of bad flicks . The man loved making movies , kept working up until his death( I think he was shooting a new film when he passed away).

Regarding Handmade Films- George Harrison always knew when to finance a good movie Life of Brian, Time Bandits, Mona Lisa etc we'll just ignore Shanghai Surprise ;) Even George knew that was going to be a failure half way-through production

Les Blank passed away today at the age of 77. He died from bladder cancer. He was a documentary filmmaker with 40 years of experience, responsible for one of my favorite documentaries, Burden of Dreams.

    Rest In Peace Les. 1935 - 2013

Uncle Monty, Ebert, now the great Les Blank - What a bad week for the movies!!

Les Blank was a great filmmaker and made some weird and wonderful stuff aside from the famous Burden of Dreams.

If you like blues music, and food, he made a load of great docs about these two subjects.

    Richard LeParmentier

    627.jpg?4225

American-born film and TV actor who spent most of his career working in England, has died at the age of 66. LeParmentier was best remembered for playing Admiral Motti, the Imperial head of Naval operations in Star Wars (1977) who has the arrogance to insult Darth Vader’s “sorcerer’s ways,” thus becoming the first character to give Vader reason to demonstrate his party trick of strangling someone from the other side of the room.

LeParmentier made his movie debut in the 1974 rock picture Stardust, going on to other small roles in Rollerball (1975), Ken Russell’s Valentino (1977), Warren Beatty’s Reds (1981), the James Bond film Octopussy (1983), the TV miniseries Reilly: Ace Of Spies (1983), and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988). He appeared in The People That Time Forgot (1977) and Superman II (1981), both of which co-starred Sarah Douglas, to whom he was married from 1981 to 1984. LeParmentier also doubled as a writer for such TV series as The Bill and Boon. He retired from the screen after 1992, but lent his voice to the Soldiers: Heroes Of World War II video game in 2004.

    Bryan Forbes (1926–2013)

I must be getting old, this seems to be happening too often for comfort.

Probably a somewhat underrated director as his more high profile latter films were the likes of International Velvet and The Slipper and the Rose. But King Rat, Whistle Down the Wind, The Wrong Box and Seance on a Wet Afternoon plus his work as a writer and producer means he is significant in post war British cinema.

One of the greats of Science Fiction and fantasy writing - Richard Matheson has died aged 87. His best known for I am Legend which was filmed under three different titles to variable effect - The Last Man on Earth (1964), The Omega Man (1971) and Will Smiths "eponymous" film. His best work though for my money was the peerless Incredible Shrinking Man when the whole notion of existence comes under scrutiny. Other titles included The Legend of Hell House, Stir of Echoes and work for TV including the legendary "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" for the Twilight Zone in which passenger William Shatner is convinced he has spotted something alien on the wing of a plane. Duel, (Kolcheck) The Night Stalker/the Night Strangler, Night gallery and so on. We won't mention Jaws 3-D

'Enter the Dragon' Star Jim Kelly Dead at 67

    MV5BOTk5MDY5NzM3N15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMzQxNzMyNw@@._V1._SY140_.jpg

Jim Kelly, who made his name alongside martial arts legend Bruce Lee in the classic 1973 action film "Enter the Dragon," has died according to Film.com. He was 67.

A football star at the University of Kentucky, Kelly dropped out to pursue martial arts. After winning a championship in 1971 and opening his own dojo, he came to the attention of Hollywood filmmakers and made his debut in "Enter the Dragon," becoming an instant superstar.

Kelly parlayed that success into a decade of blaxploitation hits, including the seminal 1974 hit "Three the Hard Way" alongside Fred Williamson and Jim Brown. He retired from movies in 1982, though he still appeared occasionally in cameo roles and at conventions.

Just after reading that the brilliant Dennis Farina has passed away. Real shame as he was one of the most distinctive faces on TV and a damn fine actor.

Really think that his best performance was in last years The Last Rites of Joe May. Really felt that if it had gotten the distribution i deserved he would have been assured an Oscar nomination.

I remember DF from films long before his recent face e.g. in the 80s he was in Miami Vice, Manhunter and Midnight Run. He was a police officer before taking up acting, so it's not all that surprising that he played a lot of cops ..!

I don't usually like to comment in these types of threads, but was a big fan of Dennis Farina. RIP.

Actress Lisa Robin Kelly, best known for her role in That '70s Show, has died after years of battling drug addiction.
Her manager said the 43-year-old had died in a rehab facility on Wednesday night.
"Unfortunately Lisa Robin Kelly passed away last evening," Craig Wycoff told US media on Thursday.
"Lisa had voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility early this week where she was battling the addiction problems that have plagued her these past few years.
"I spoke to her on Monday and she was hopeful and confident, looking forward to putting this part of her life behind her.
"Last night she lost the battle."
Kelly rose to fame as Laurie Forman on That '70s Show, the hit sitcom that helped launch the careers of Ashton Kutcher, Topher Grace and Mila Kunis.
Kelly's character was the older sister of Eric Forman, played by Grace.
The show ran from 1998 to 2006 but Kelly left in 2003.
Since then she was often in the news for her drug addiction and other problems. She was recently arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

Time to bring this thread back up, sadly. Antonia Bird died a couple of days ago: British director with a lot of TV work on her plate, as well as feature films with Robert Carlyle such as Priest and Ravenous.

Today it was announced that Hal Needham has died: veteran stuntman whose directorial debut was Smokey & The Bandit. He and Burt Reynolds worked together several more times, including Hooper and The Cannonball Run.

I should also mention Lou Reed, who died today: not much of an actor, directed one short, but according to IMDB his songs have featured in 151 films. Renton's idea of a Perfect Day wasn't all that far from Reed's ...
