Yet we can upgrade our €600+ smartphones annually

We're free to spend our money on whatever the fuck we please.

Id say theyll keep basic playing of games free, have 1 tier for all the uploading & other social features then have the higher priced tier replacing ps+

I think they'll just have the system they have now where plus has a few extra features and you get free games on top.

To me that's a far better deal than Xbox gold where you get nothing at all from it. I've already made my €35 I spent on ps+ back 3 times over.

I actually made my decision a few weeks ago. Neither. Im done with xbox gaming, this is coming from a guy playing since the first xbox and gaming online a long assssss time. When I think about the cost of say an xbox or ps4 new at launch its very steep you looking at 400+ easily. The console will then have a life cycle of 10years? 10 years is a long time in terms of gaming and computers, hardware gets outdated very fast.

I have decided to build a computer it will destroy any new console that comes out and will continue to do so years to come. The when my graphics slow down, I sell my graphics card for whatever I can get, and upgrade to a new one and off I go again.

Granted I may lose certain games but who cares, ps4 is using an amd architecture I figure games will only be getting easier to port from here on out. And the new gears of war was crap anyway :D My two cents

Be getting a decent laptop or PC, TBH.
But, if push comes to shove (as in we get good exclusives, like the Yakuza series or the Way of the Samurai series on the PS4), I'll be getting PS4.

What advantage would either of these have over my Atari 2600?

I'm a playstation fan and never gave xbox a chance but always considered getting one but have been happy playing away with the playstation.

God! I remember the day when the ps3 came out. I think it was sometime in early 2007. Had a ps3 prebooked and went into town for a midnight pick up. Time flys by, it's so scary. I remember it as if it was yesterday. The playstation that was bought is still going good today. Can't believe it's almost time to replace it with the next.

So! What will the playstation 4 be like? I mean like, ps3 has been very good and still is. So how will the ps4 differ from the ps3?

    Atari Jaguar
xbox 720 isn't going to be backwards compatible either

Source? I hadn't heard anything about this and I can't find it with a quick google either.

Have both consoles now, xbox live is far better than psn. Playstation better for watching bluray (cause you can't on xbox).

Xbox better for online gaming, movie streaming and music playing.

Xbox much better cross platform support.

Playstation store better in the sense you can pay with real money rather than points, but xbox store better in the sense that it has a lot more and a lot better content.

If the game is on both consoles, I buy ps3 if I won't play online, otherwise xbox. With the exception of the xbox games that currently come as a set of coasters rather than 1 disc, but I suspect that'll change next time round and both will come with bluray drives as standard.

Bluray saved the ps3, there was a sizeable number of people who bought one cause it was at the time a cheap bluray player.

I suspect that ultimately I'll end up owning both the new consoles, but it'll be the 720 first no doubt.

But that's exactly what they are. And it's refreshing to just pop in and play instead of digging through forums and threatening to boot nvidia in the balls over and over and over

    I have both a 360 and a PS3 but i'll be buying the PS4 first because i always buy a Playstation first.

    Why?

    Because i do.

    Why?

    Piss off.

actually i'd probably be the same as most of my mates are on PS so they'd probably migrate to the ps4

    Better start saving so.

As far as I can remember with ps3 it was due for release a few months before they went on sale, but the release date was pushed back.

It was mentioned here in this thread that the ps3 is due for release later this year but I doubt we will get to see the new one before xmas and they'll push it in 2014, more than likely. Plenty of time.

That's strange. My ps3 is 6 years+ old and never gave any trouble and is still going good.

720 at least that backwards compatibility for previous consoles xbox 360 and xbox games discs

while ps4 isnt backwards compatibility for previous consoles ps3, PS2 and ps1 games discs

Sony Clarifies that their PS4 wont be backwards compatibles ps3, ps2 and ps1.

News: PlayStation 4 Not Backwards Compatible With Retail or Digital Games.

that means you own ps3 or ps2 or ps1 games they wont work on ps4,

going have pay them again to work on ps4 and download them virtual to work on ps4

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80i_6UnnsRg

    http://www.theverge.com/2013/2/20/4010604/PS4-will-not-support-PS3-games

what i mean only ps4 games and bluray dvd or dvd or cd play only work ps4, if want play other playstations games going pay for them and download digital to work on ps4

Indeed, this is bad news. The first thing I plan on doing with my new super powerful PS4 is of course try to play a 20 year old PS1 game. The fact I won't be able to do this is shocking and very short sighted on Sony's part......

Just read some articles were developers were saying they doubted either ps4 or xbox 720 would be, they were right about the ps4.

We'll know for definite pretty soon if it is or not when microsoft unveil the new xbox in the next few weeks.

i hope drop soon before 2 yrs later, because in 2yrs time the shops wont accept ps3 games as trade in offer

Japan will get their PS4's for Christmas, us europeans will have to wait until March 2014.

While I think we will all be in a better position to judge which horse to back after E3 in June, my money is on PS4 for the big win! (unless microsoft really pull something special out of the bag)

More than likely the Xbox 720 because of the backwards compatibility but it depends on the price tbh..

According to Kotaku apparently for the first time ever that the UK may get it first, be interesting to see is that the case - the Japanese would not be happy....

With the ps4 coming out this year why are Sony releasing such massive titles such as last of us and gta5 on ps3?if they released them on Ps4 surely more people would run out and buy it but with the games coming to ps3 there's no need to buy the new console for a while. It doesn't make sense to me ...
They have to. It would be very bad for consumer good will to just abandon the PS3. Think back to the original xbox, and when the 360 came out. There was a lot of people either
    A) Annoyed the xbox was being abandoned.
    B) Sony fans using it as ammunition in the console wars.

I also read somewhere that the next Xbox will have to be connected to the internet at all times in order to work and play your games. You're also going to have to install all your games on the HDD, knowing Microsoft they'll charge through the roof for that special hard drive.

With everything I've heard the next Xbox is a weaker and unappealing console compared to the PS4.

    Or...

Don't believe everything you read on the net. Did you know that rumour was going around about Sony with the PS4 before it started doing the rounds about MS with the 720? Well, it did, and it all started from this.
