    21/03/2013

    8 x 400s with 2 min Recovery

Was not looking forward to this run with the weather

.99 mile warm up Avg pace 10:42=10.33

    Splits

    1. Avg pace 7.21
    2. Avg pace 7.54
    3. Avg pace 7.20
    4. Avg pace 8.52
    5. Avg pace 8.15
    6. Avg pace 9.20
    7. Avg pace 8.34
    8. Avg pace 10.19

    Cool down 1.21 miles @ 10.07=12.15

Splits where all over the place doing these near the river nearly blown out of it. After each interval my leg was shaking like mad just walking around at recovery stopped it. Happy with the session but running against the wind was hard.

    Week 2

    24.03.2013

As in the plan 5 miles today

    Did 5.29 miles Avg pace 9:58 =49:51
A windy day here, the garmin strap kept slipping on me so it was all over the place must tighten the strap.

Ran on empty this morning let the other half have a lie in, found it ok, for the last mile all I wanted was my breakfast, porridge and boiled eggs.

    WTD|11.56
    MTD|52.06
    YTD|181.62

Which plan are you following? Do you go out early on Sundays?

Still on hals 10k plan just swapping days to suit work and the gym, like when I'm off work I go to the gym and do intervals on the treadmill and after a hard run I like to have the day off from running. I would rather keep doing 13 miles each weekend with the 10k plan I would be afraid my level of fitness would fall:(

How are you finding the plan do you find you feel confident you will complete it?

I was running yesterday so taking it easy, will speed it up tomorrow. Should I run at 8:30 all the time?

    No definitely not.

You are targetting a sub 50 10k per your opening post which is approx 8min/mile pace. If you can do 10 miles at 8:30 then this is well within your capability in race mode.

I would generally do easy runs during the week with exception of one of them at faster pace, and the Long Run at a much slower pace.

My comment was not a criticism so hope it didnt come across that way more a question of curiosity and it seemed from reading your post that you may have gone backwards in your training efforts but if as you say it was intentionally easy then there is no cause for concern:)

I hope to do two speed work outs a week tomorrow and Thursday.I have three miles to do at 8:30. I find running 4 days a week a bit tough, normaly id run three days a week fresher legs.

Im going to give it 100%
I am trusting in Hals plan to get me round, I wont be breaking any land speed records but thats not what im all about. I hope to finish in or around 5 hours
Im not going to do anything stupid half way in!

I would not expect you to give any less than 100%, just finding some runs hard not longs ones I'm not use to running 5 days a week has me doubting my self.

Had the intention off doing 3 miles @ 8:30 however did the first mile in 8:16 after this mile I was getting sore so stopped. I am rethinking of doing 3 days a week and the gym. I think I am over doing it with the plan. I think its too much too soon going from 3 -5 days a week.

Sore leg since last week tried a light jog leg was still sore so stopped after a mile. Leg feels a lot better but don't want to push it.

I really have no idea how this will affect my 10k race but main goal is the DCM.:(

Lower right leg is sore, a lot better now just going to wait till Thursday see how it goes, I think the plan was too much running 5 days a week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭zooming

You could be right, I only run 4 days per week and I couldn't do any more TBH
it's ok maybe if you have nothing else to do all day only recover but most of us have jobs and families to take care of along side our running. 5 days prob was too much. Do you ever go for a massage?

Ha Ha can relate to that one - my young lad is the same - he helps me doing my stretches too by sitting on my legs.. :D

Hope the injury clears up soon..

So hopefully joining Drogheda And District tomorrow, feel they will bring me forward with my running. They also train close to me and on a proper track easier on the legs. I'm off tomorrow so I'll head to them tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,687 ✭✭✭Darren 83

Started training with my local club Drogheda and District AC

    5 x 800m in 3m45s to 4m02s with 2 min recovery

    2.58 miles @ 7.25 pace = 19.07 Avg hr 176 Max hr 188

Felt good with this session last one I was falling behind to be expected.

Also did warm up cool/down 1.76 miles

    Boyne 10k Pre Race

The club had today a pre race today open to members and non members.

There was a great turn out for this pre race. A part of the course was cut out due to under construction, this added a extra 1k to it.

    7.24 Miles @9.03 pace =105:30 Avg hr 171 Max hr 191

    WTD|11.58
    MTD|11.58
    YTD|200.62

    10 x 300s

    10 x 300s in 65s in 70s with 1 min recovery

Found this session hard, it will take a bit of getting use to lagging behind in the last two sessions.
Also warm up cool down 1.96 miles

    WTD|3.96
    MTD|15.54
    YTD|204.58

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,687 ✭✭✭Darren 83

    5 x 800s in 3:45s to 4:02s With 2 Min Recovery

Warm Up 2 laps of the track 800m
    Then stretches before session

Club session today found it tough lagging behind again. Really questioning my fitness level the only consolation is all the group where out of breath.

Cool down 2 laps 800m and stretching afterwards

I'm in a quick group based on my last half marathon time, do feel slow against other runners, I will see in my next race if I am any quicker.
