Yeah I heard that from others doing it, im a fresher so I was glad to get paid, really wanted free stuff to hand out because everyone was asking. Some lad was wearing a high vis in one of the houses and was pretty mouldy. He came out said "Ive got this house lads". It was brilliant because we called back later and the party was mental and he was still pretending to be one of us.

Was that in Milford? We had a house party there on Thursday night that lasted til 10am on Friday :)

We've seen worse I think the lads spraying the fire extinguisher on the couch on a house roof in college court tops them all!

Saw someone walk out of the house with a door before,
About 2 houses away from where I'm living now, last year.
Then the front of house, and surplus door, in flour and eggs.
Saw it the next day, don't know how some get away with it"

    2Manydjs were on last week

    Pre Sale ticket : €20
Ticket on the night : €5

Surely that's not very fair?. S.U absolutely fleecing students for buying pre-sale. Surprised nobody mentioned it.

My brother commented about this on the SU Facebook page, saying that at the very least, some kind of prior notice or something should have been given about it. His comment was promptly deleted.

Piss Charity Week this year was an utter failure. I was told my one of the guys running for election that it only made around €800 (before 2manyDJs). A person doing M&M made more money than a charity. I also heard that they were struggling to sell tickets to 2manyDJs. When asked about what charity week made at the UGM the response was that it wasn't counted yet. Given that nobody could send an email due to the elections. (not the fact that they were on holidays) I don't trust that response from the union.

So BroCon can make €2900 in one Saturday night for charity with minimal UL coverage (link) versus Charity Week's €800 for a whole week of day and night events shoved down our throats for weeks? :pac:

Makes noises for notifications as well now,
    Can't escape it! :P

There's a nice area on first floor across from the stairs,
Seldom populated and when so, scarcely :)
Go there for the quiet :)

The thing is about the ULSU Ents page is that it's not run by a student, it's run by a guy running a business. He doesn't want bad press. That gambit is a common one, put up tickets for 20 quid, get the loyal suckers to buy in advance. realise only 50 tickets are sold and flog the rest on the door. He needs to try break even, but everyone one who bought the 20 euro tickets and didn't get compensated will never buy another ENTs ticket in their college lives. Am i right?

Do we have any right of reply on this facebook page or can he delete as he feels fit. It was one of the most unsavoury and unprofessional things last years SU did, cherry pick facebook comments and delete the others.

To be fair, charity week has really lost its touch though. I mean it's almost the same thing every year: shifting competitions in the stables, dirty shots, bucking bull, couple of inflatable things in the courtyard (hardly nothing this year), couple of bands - never anyone to get TOO excited about (2manydjs aint bad though) & that hypnotist guy etc... They really need to spice it up a bit. It could be because I've been in UL for a good while now but UL charity week just isnt doing it anymore. For me anyway.

Let's face it, the whole premise of Charity Week is a farce. It's being seen by most students as a great pissup, not a fundraiser of any sort. Made worse by the clubs in town punting in on it and not making any efforts to raise money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,533 ✭✭✭Jester252

    But its for charity.

Totally agree. The clubs should give a significant amount of their profit from 'Rag week nights' to charities that the colleges in the city are fundraising for.

Sinbin would have to close down if they did that since they had more staff than customers both nights

Just want to add something to this. 2manydjs are a huge act internationally, a group which sold out the Olympia (1200 capacity) two nights running back in November for €30 a head.

There were no more than 200 (being generous) present on the night to see 2manydjs, which was a farce, tbh. Obviously, the SU are going to cut the ticket price on the night if no-one is paying the full €20. They have to claw something back from the night. It's not as if the SU went out deliberately to fleece students. They probably made a huge loss on the night. 2manydjs would not have come cheap, in any sense of the word.

I say that as someone who paid the full price of a ticket and attended. I don't feel aggrieved, I got to see one of the biggest DJ collectives of the last couple of decades for the price of a few pints.

As for no final figure being available.. The sabbats were on holidays for election week, and the UGM was early last week, when they would have been dealing with the backlog of election week. Be realistic. The figure was never released in the days after Rag week afaik.

I don't think the Union says how much it generates from Charity week but a total raised for the year.
