Looking for one, using Dipetane and I don't find it does anything.

Has anyone used Miller Ecomax and found it any good?

Thanks!

We use ecomax, both petrol and diesel

I swears by it

What are you expecting it to do?

Ease up on smoke, help with mpg and see if it will help it idle smoother.......everything they claim to do basically, I'd just like to get one that'll work

With prolonged use of ecomax, the engine will idle smoother and be that bit easier on fuel. To clean up emissions we use cataclean. We noticed this on 3 different vehicles, both diesel and petrol

Alternatively to clean up emissions, drive the lard out of the car

Well if shes still smoking, why not look at how the air gets into the engine? Like is the the filter clean, any split hoses, intercooler leaking air etc

If you have an excessively smokey TDi, using more diesel than it should with a rough idle it's quite likely w@nked to a degree, it may well require more than an additive to get it running correctly :)

How long have you been using diptane?

Air filter is clean and there doesn't seem to be any cracked/perished air intake pipes/breather pipes.

The injectors were done by Seat last year under a re-call, month or so ago the DPF went so I got that removed the the EGR bypassed and I have been told that either an injector might have been damaged being put in or it could be the tandem pump mixing oil with the fuel or once again the injector seals were botched during replacement as the fuel filter is nearly always black so there are a few demons in there alright......
The injector re-call seems to have had knock on effects across the entire VW range.

I'm just trying to find a way to ease the smokeyness for the time being......

It's not excessively smokey, wee bit at idle and then a bit of black under excessive load........probably down to the DPF delete.
Joe is going to mess about with the injector timings and see if that helps in any way.

I've been using it a bit, not every fill, maybe once or twice a month and when I do the fuel filter which is every two to three months.

It's more so to see if anyone has had any actual good reports about an additive in particular and if there was one worth trying...

Dipetene isnt a cleaner, which is what you likely want.

Try Terraclean (EUR120 machine fed process) or BG244 (EUR30, add to fuel):

You can buy it locally in Ireland too.

I have always been wary of trying fuel additives - the only thing I ever used was ZX1 engine lubricant on a couple of old cars and found them to run a lot smoother.

Would there be any advantage to me putting that BG244 into a 2010 diesel with 35k miles, or would it not be old enough to need it yet?

I assume this is a 2.0TDI? If the idle is rough with some smoke from the exhaust then you need to check the cam timing, particulary the exhaust cam timing.

Hi George,

It's a PD 170 BMN and the timings were checked using VCDS as far as I'm aware.....is this what you are getting at?

Thanks!

The exhaust cam has no sensor on it so can't be checked using VCDS, it needs to be checked visually. When the exhaust cam timing is out they will idle roughly and there will be smoke from the exhaust. Seen it on plenty of them before after timing belts were changed on them.

Thanks for this info George, how does one go about checking this? Timing cover off job?
