It amazing to see a good few members on here who have been on boards.ie since 2001 and before and are still posting 12/13+ years later. That is a lifetime. I would love to know who is the longest serving and most frequent poster?

My question is how did you hear about boards.ie and why did you join? What influenced you to sign up first day? Im relatively new to boards but it was the GAA forum that got me to register and slowly i found my way onto other forums that shared my interests. Now, I can't live without having boards as part of my life.

I was a lurker and took a mad notion to register. AH was my favourite forum to lurk in before I registered.

family member used it and we were the only other people we knew to have internet access, so we were always linking each other stuff, he used it for gaming and invited me over one day. I was used to American based bulletin boards and didn't really like it so much so didn't stay. I was born on the internet in America and I still only feel half Irish and not at all at home here.

Someone was wrong about something and I joined to point it out.

The internet needs that kind of thing.

I was looking on the interweb looking for filth and I thought AH sounded like a meet places for odd balls. Obviously I was extremely disappointed but I kept lurking for years and got a great laugh from it.

Then I had to go work abroad for awhile so I had lots of spare time so I then decided to take the plunge and register.

I never understood why people do that. Is not incredibly... dull?

Joined to talk about poker, that was the only part of boards I used for a solid year or so, then branched out.

To the detriment of my actual life

I was here in '09 gave me a shock one day to realize i was signed up. But was a habit to sign up for every website i liked. im sure i had a massive footprint left on the webs. but i assumed a new identity and its nearly as big as the last.

To read the same threads over and over until the universe tires of being experienced from my perspective, of course!

I moved back to Ireland after a decade away and everytime I looked something up there was a boards thread on it. Made sense to join up. Now I tend to just lurk and giggle in AH mostly.

I joined to thank someone for posting instructions on how to get my mobile connected to the internet. It was driving me nuts and I was thrilled that someone else had worked it out. Can't even remember what phone it was now.

I lurk far more than I post-might get to 1000 posts by 2015 if I pick up the pace a bit...

I joined in '98 because people were talking about Quake.
This whole place used to be quake players as far as the eye could see, now it's all noobs who probably don't even know how to strafe-jump around the pillars of DM3.

Was living and working in Israel at the time but needed to get in touch with the o2 network. Never heard of Boards before that but Googled the o2 support thread here, got the answers I needed, and decided to stick around. Still more of a lurker than a poster though, too busy having an actual life instead of a virtual one.

Boards threads came up in Google search for a couple of things I had googled. So I became a lurker for awhile, got addicted and then joined!

The thought I wanted to visit after hearing how pretty it was, so I logged on to learn about Ireland and the people.

I seen it on the computer screen next to me in college. Joined. Had fun. Trolled. Nearly got banned. Got given mod powers. Stayed. Gave up mod powers. Took them back. Gave them up again. Now I live in a happy place :)

I registered to comment on the "I have a dilemma" thread (had a diff ID before but forgot password)

N00b 2011, 2012 and 2013 regos everywhere in this thread.

Recommended by a friend so joined up as a 17 year old. Thought about jacking it in many a time but it keeps me connected with stuff at home and 2002 is a fairly big boards penis
