    Here's an interesting fact, April 1922 with a mean of 4.6c was the coldest month of the "winter" at the Phoenix Park.

    Mean of 4.3c.....that's what the VP2 says? Tend not to get forsts as severe here as either Casement or Dublin AP, so that may have something to do with it?

    Heavy rain and strong E-SE winds on Thursday night may be the biggest weather story at the moment ... and next week's return to bitter cold.

    I could see potential for 50-70 mm of rain and winds gusting to 90 km/hr on the current maps, in most of southern and central Ireland. This could fall as a heavy wet snow on highest elevations. Perhaps a separate thread for this rain and wind event would be a good idea to separate out the discussions about next week.

    The ECM has ramped up cold uppers quite a bit this season so some movement towards the gfs can be expected. Still great to see and even though it's a bit late for lying snow, falling snow is nice to see at any time.

    It appears it will be milder for a while (and wet) but its early next week when it looks like getting colder again.
    Met E wont mention next week until Sunday, maybe Sat, anyway their 6pm forecast is not based on the 12z Ecmwf, the 9.30pm one will be ;)

    As above, ME (on RTE) base there forecast after the 6pm news on one weather model that is, at that stage, 12 hours old.

    Check out the weather forecast after the 9pm news and see if it has changed?

    Can't see temps higher than 5c or 6c, max., for Dublin for the next 5 days at least and then indications are colder again next week...obviously...based on current models.

    Lots of precip. over Wales looks like it will make it to Ireland later on, probably north of Dublin unless the low sinks south abit, doesn't seem very favourable for snow for anywhere Dublin and south atm anyway. Any reports on DP's from Louth, Down etc?? precip on its way within the next hour.

    DP at M2 bouy is up to 3.1c now, so anything coming off the Irish Sea this evening (stuff coming out of Wales now) is unlikely to be snow (or even sleet), although hail or graupel are possible.

    Well,it will be snow,for definite up at the Rte mast on kippure or around the Sally gap or wicklow gap...but I wouldn't advise anyone going up there unless you're in a convoy of Quads...and well wrapped up.
    If ye are bringing the car,make sure Jeremy Clarkson is driving

    Be thankful it did this year more than not at all

    Very cold for most of the rest of march with imt of 3. To 4 likely

    April should start on a drier note though and maybe milder by the end of march start of April

    Snowed in Sligo early today but it's 3.4c now and there's a rain shower just starting

    Think all well get here on Thursday Friday is sleety rain and maybe some counties in ni might see snow briefly though Scotland gets a pasting

    Damn right WB! :-) ... pics (links below) from Military Road & Sally Gap today (16h00-18h00) - even put my stamp in my tire-tread at Sally Gap to prove it (pics or GTFO and all that!) :pac:

    Driving wasn't so bad today - slushy in parts - dry snow in other parts, but not overly icy.
