To cycle back towards your house, yeah, that's madness.:D

How was it today? What was the jump from 200km to 300km like?

It was actually ok, helped no doubt by ideal conditions, clear blue skies and no wind!

it was just like doing the 200, with a few more stops, and a few times asking "are we there yet?"!

How long did it take you and were there many at it? I know there's a thread somewhere about it, but I'm just being nosey!

ah, awoken from my unconscious stare!

There were about 15 of us I think. We kinda stayed together until the first control at 48k, then the group whittled down gradually. Myself and one other guy rode together from about 90k on, picked up another rider just before 200k and the three of us sailed home together.

    Back to phibsboro at 7.50pm!

69k in snow wind and rain. Almost went home after 10km. Glad I stock it out

Back from 25k spin. Had planned to do around 40 but the driving rain and hail earlier forced a shorter route home. Never really got warmed up, temp gauge showing 2degrees which rose to 5 by the time I got home. 23km/hr average which wasn't too bad but the last 10 was with tail wind so brought it up from a lowly 16.

Finishd work @ 10am today and couldn't resist a quick spin as soon as I got home. Felt really strong so pumped out 36k in just over an hour. Nabbing the sundays well kom by one second in the process:-)

Not bad going after a days work!

Tough going out there this morning. I had intended to do 80k in north county Dublin but after 10k my feet were saturated (even with overshoes) with the amount of surface water.

Snow around the Nags Head, Damastown and Mallahow so I had to take it handy but my feet became increasingly colder and number so I aborted and ended up doing just 52k. I was glad to get home.

Had planned to do the very same but bottled it within a minute of waking up and looking out the window...made do with an hour on a spin bike in the gym :(

Got caught in snow, sleet, slush on the road yesterday. Did 90km.

I'd say HTFU, but I had two cups of tea during that.

Nice day for it, sun on my back, not too cold, not too breezy :).
Got out today as tomorrow & Friday look doomed to the weather :(

Did > 48.4km (+5km warmdown), up the Windy Gap (curvy as opposed to breezy!!) > Coachford > Dripsey > Tower > Ovens.

Your maximum speed is showing 99.4km/h..

May I ask what road that was on?

Back on the bike for the first time since my crash at the start of the month.

Completed 38km trying to break the new bike in. Bike is completely different

to my old Defy....more of a racing geometry. Needs some tweaking and

adjusting as I have a slight twinge between my shoulder blades.

Still it's good to be back :D

If I told you I'd have to kill you :p

No, I reckon that piece of info is best overlooked, a GPS spike or something, when you actually go into the performance & select speed, there's no evidence of the 'spike'. I wouldn't take the GPS speed as gospel at certain points either, the GPS compensates from one point to the next I'd imagine, ie. I'd be comparing the speed to my own computer which is much more 'smooth', no spikes.

Ruining my goal of hitting 100km/h :(:D

    Got it!

Commute into work today was miserable! Gale warnings and wave upon wave of sleet and rain hitting me. Having to cycle downhill is heartbreaking.

Planned 3 big sessions this week...

Tuesday morning was put off because of snow
Wednesday morning was put off because of an impromptu meeting called in college
This morning was put off because of the same

Have had to make do with a spin class each morning instead...they really aren't nice!

First commute home from work yesterday (got a bike rack for the missus car at the weekend so she can drop me off on her way to work).

Planning on doing it about 3 times a week when I'm not playing soccer after work.

22km is the distance to home, I reckon it took me the best part of an hour yesterday. Downloaded Strava for my phone this morning to try and track it over the next few weeks and see if I improve any bit!

Did Ashbourne to Blackrock this morning, as natty said, having to push the bike downhill is a bit disheartening and the coast road was pure torture.

however I plan to do the return spin in about 30mins if the wind keeps up, just stick up a sail and we're off.

Ashbourne to Blackrock you say...do you do that spin often?

Tried to do my first 100km spin today, a bit of a cheaters route out the N11 to Glendalough. Ended up being a 72km spin.

Buffeted by winds the whole way out to Bray (For some reason it seemed worse in the drops?) the same experience of having to really push down hills.

By the time I'd gotten all the way through Bray and past the turn off for Greystones the Sugar Loaf was vanishing in fog and I decided that discretion was the better part of not having a disaster and turned tail.

Blazed back along the N11 fairly easily apart from when an Ambulance that was pootling along without sirens beeped and badgered me off the road for daring to use the bus lane.

Caught up with him twice (He never did more that 50) and took note of the reg, even if it was hospital business, I don't see the justification...grrr.

    So today I learned,

    * I need waterproof overshoes.
    * Weatherproof is NOT the same as waterproof, my Altura jacket was fantastic but my Lidl pants were useless!
    * Manhole covers in the wet should be treated the same as landmines.
    * I am going to buy a helmet cam, a car overtook and then pulled back in front of me resulting in aggressive braking & a tumble.

Besides the wind I didn't really mind the rain.

A nice 95k this morning. Didn't get out on time to pick up the Swords Thursday spin so headed out solo. A stiff easterly wind made for a bit of creative routing to aim for a tailwind for the end. Up to Portmarnock, Malahide, Swords, west to pick up the Garristown road, north to Garristown, stopped to don overshoes 'cos the feet were getting cold, east to Naul with good shelter from hedges over the three sisters but sudden cross winds at gates. Stopped at Naul for tea and apple pie and 50k done.

Headed across to Balrothery (serious headwind), up the hill to Ardgillan, back down and cut south. Up by bog of the ring and over some bastard of a hill heading for Nevin. Small back roads to Ballybogall and then south to the Airport. Turned east above the airport and barely managed 15kph into the wind. Turned south and all was pretty easy with the wind on the rear quarter. 5.5 hours including stops but plenty of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy in the ears made for a pleasing morning...

wow. The training plan said hills, and I wasn't backing down, despite the wind howling and the rain smashing against the windows.

Crawled my way along the seafront at Clontarf, about 20kmph. Think it's the first time I've had to use a 39x25 just to get out to Howth. Through the village, the noise of the wind ripping through the masts and folded sails was eerie.

Had the headland to myself mostly, very little car traffic, no other cyclists. Didn't risk the summit carpark for fear of actually taking off. Compared to the seafront, the roads were pretty sheltered, but the torrents of water pouring across them made me nervous. Two short climbs punctuated with a long one, then back along the sea front at about 40kmph. Could've gone faster, but the lack of feeling in my hands (and thus inability to brake/react) and the fact that my glasses kept misting over meant I took it handier.

Home, and took off my gear and put it in a bucket. Have just finished stashing it in various places to dry... the train is very appealing for the morning.
