SEAI Warmer homes - cavity insulation

    Hi

I had a survey done from the SEAI warmer homes scheme

The surveyor said that because only the front wall of the semi d was a cavity wall and the side and back were cavity block that they wouldn't insulate any of them

I asked why not do just the one wall (one wall done is better than none) and he said "ahh they wouldn't come out for just one wall its the whole house or nothing"

That just seems crazy to me and I cant understand the logic!

Anybody any experience with this issue?

as only 'pumped cavity insulation' is available through that scheme, and contractors tender for these jobs, its not unreasonable to expect a minimum coverage standard before they would allocate funds for it.

    however, you should
Contact the BEWH helpdesk on 1800 250 204 or email warmerhomes@seai.ie
    to clarify.

Perhaps if they were completing other houses in the area they could include yours on the same job list??

What is the difference between cavity wall and cavity block?

Thanks. Could you give standards widths for both?

I'm a little curious here. These questions are dragging the thread off topic now and I would like to know the reason for such basic questions

I am pretty sure the builder in our house used cavity brick (2011 - 2012 build). I opened up a vent to try and see but it is well sealed so hard to tell for certain. If I knew the standard widths for both approaches - I could tell.

Go to the Roadstone website here ----> Standard Concrete Blocks ----> Sizes & Weights ----> std_block.gif

Thanks. Is there a building reg which says which ones should be used?

The easiest way to find out what your blocks are is to go into your attic to an external wall and drill a hole ... if its a cavity block youll be through it in seconds as its only about 3 - 4cms thick where as if its a cavity wall the block will be about 9 - 10cms (use your drill bit as a measuring guide) fill the hole with silicone after.
