Being bored I decided to quickly put together a realistic build that I would like to buy...

    Item|Price
    Intel Core i5-3570K Box, LGA1155|€202.90
FRACTAL DESIGN Define R4 Titanium Grey Window side panel|€104.00
    Seasonic X-Series Fanless X-400FL 400W passiv|€114.78
    4GB-Kit Corsair DDR3 PC1600 CL9 Dominator|€43.00
    Samsung SSD 840 Pro 256GB SATA 6Gb/s|€199.99
    WD Caviar Green 1TB, SATA 6Gb/s (WD10EZRX)|€58.32
    4 x Noctua NF-P14 FLX Gehäuselüfter 14cm|€79.96
    ASRock Z77 Extreme6, Sockel 1155, ATX|€144.89
    be quiet!Dark Rock Pro 2|€72.68
Razer Black Widow Ultimate Elite Gaming Keyboard, USB|€139.99
    ASUS Xonar D2/PM, PCI (90-YAA021-1UAN00)|€114.79
    Edifier®2.0 Soundsystem, R1900TII, schwarz|€89.99
    Dell UltraSharp U2412M (schwarz)|€256.87
    NZXT SENTRY LX - Multipanel|€56.94
    Revoltec Backlight Erweiterungs-Set 9" SMD-LED|€9.99
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€1708.08

I have the mouse already :P

I really didn't expect it to be pushing for 2k
Some thing's are place-holders, like the keyboard and the fans but when I wasn't doing a gaming build and I wasn't going with watercooling I really didn't expect the price to get so high.
And that's before a nice chair & desk!!

Oh boy I really hope I lose interest in this PC building thing before I get my opportunity to build my dream PC.

Nice. If that were mine, I'd swap the fans for GTs, and the Green drive for a Red. Very nice otherwise.

I suppose it's just all the little things. A €100 case instead of a simple €50 one, the Extreme6 vs. Extreme4 or Pro3, and the fact that you've got all the peripherals in there, which aren't in most builds.

Anyone using the Sapphire HD 7950 Vapor-X OC. Is it true that by switching to the lower speed, ie: not the boost bios, that you up the voltage and clock the card much higher?

Yes, if you're on the latest bios (015.025.000.099). Otherwise, both BIOSes should be unlocked.

By the way, if I had the chance to buy a HD7950 again I wouldn't get the Vapor-X. Here's why:
    • Piss poor VRM cooling
    • Crappy GPU cooling once the voltage starts to flow
    • Loud fan
    • PCB not compatible with waterblocks
    • Disgusting turquoise PCB (doesn't matter if you don't have a window)
    • Took me a whole day of BIOS flashing and tweaking to unlock the voltage after switching to the new BIOS
    • White Sapphire LED may intrude with your system

I'd probably go with the 950mhz version of Sapphire's HD7950 which looks like this:
    http://us.sapphiretech.com/mc/images/prods/1551/11196-10_HD7950_OC_3GBGDDR5_2miniDP_HDMI_DVI_PCIE_C03_634702826338314263_600_600.jpg.

Failing that, MSI's Twin Frozr with HD7970 PCB (not the boost version) or the ASUS DCII.

EDIT: Also, my ASIC quality is poor, which seems to be the case with many of the other 8+8-pin cards. It's 67.8%. The performance of the card itself is unreal at 1220mhz though.

Sweet cheers for that. Was looking into getting a 7970 but decided against it. I was just being greedy to be honest. I'm getting it from ocuk so the Dual X actually works out cheaper.

OcUK is down for me right now... Once it reappears I'll link you some recommended ones.

    EDIT: It's back, get this.

Ye went back on to throw a few more things in the basket but it's down for me too. Cheers for the help mate. Are they on the same level as the 670? I had a 670 a while back but they haven't decreased in price since I bought my old one back in August.

Edit: Cheers for the link. Just wondering why that one? I like the look of it but I'm just wondering.

It's on the same level (and can surpass the 680) once you overclock it. At stock speeds, the 670 wins.

Fluffy88 why would you put so little ram in a computer that is going to be highly specced such as that one?
The fact your using a K series chipset would suggest your going to overclock it and if your overclocking it I'm guessing you need it for something intensive and generally intensive programs require a bit of ram also.
Would be a waste to buy this rig only to keep using pagefiling because your running out of ram.
I run out of ram all the time on my laptop with 4gb on it and pagefiling turned off just using firefox, outlook and netbeans.

Thanks again. I'll throw a few Gentle typhoons into the case too.

OcUK have good delivery times, but they're quite expensive. I'd go with HWVS if you don't mind waiting an extra day or two. They've got a massive selection of cards, too.

Cheers again. I think it was the two games that lured me in. I don't even like Cyrsis all that much either. Again greediness.

I wouldn't completely disable the pagefile if you are low on RAM as you will only run out of it even faster, the reason being that programs often reserve more memory than they actually use. It can often add up to a few 100 hundred MBs depending on what programs you are running.

With a pagefile enabled the memory manager can allocate this reserved but unused memory to the pagefile, freeing up actual physical ram for use by other processes.

I disabled it for a few days to see how often it was actually needed so could justify work getting me another 4gb for it.
I was always running out during this time so upgraded and now its on 8gb I just leave it off :)

    Guess I don't have my mouse :)
That thing will probably cost as must as everything else put together.

    @Serep
No way in hell would I be putting Noctua's into my PC unless I could some how magically dream up a colour scheme that they actually would work it :P
I was looking for the GTs coz you spoke so highly of them but I saw the Noctua's first so I stuck them in.

    @Deceit
That was actually a mistake, I thought I had filtered by 8GB so didn't even look at the capacity. I was wondering why the Dominators were so cheap. I would definitely get at least 8GB.
The main reason I have a good CPU is coz I would use the PC for development work and I do bits of everything at some point so it's always nice to have the grunt there when you need it.

It not your fault the RAM filtering functionality on HWVS positively sucks balls. :P

Got my 670 ordered should have it on Monday or Tuesday, hope my power supply from HWVS arrives then as well or i won't be able to play with my new toy. NZXT Kraken X60 and an Asus sabertooth next on the list to be bought over the next few weeks.

Why wait? A gtx 670 has similar power usage to a HD6870.

Edit: Actually it uses less power. So unless your PSU has had problems running the 6870, why change?

The 850 watt psu upgrade would suggest you might be thinking of 3 way sli 670! Damn that will be expensive :P

I will definitely be adding a second 670 at some stage and I'll be doing some over clocking so I decided that I might as well upgrade my PSU while I'm upgrading everything else.Plus its modular so I can tidy up my case a good bit.

Makes sense but why wait for the psu before installing the 670?

Well if it arrives before the PSU I won't be waiting now that I know that my current psu can run it.I hope the cables on my new psu reach the top of my motherboard, current ones just about reach but it isn't pretty.

Looks like I have to RMA my Sapphire HD7870 OC GHZ Edition - I have the dreaded black screen issues. So disappointing cause I like Sapphire's cards. Anyone else have the same problems?

Anyone any interest in a Crysis 3 key? Haven't got it yet, should be here soon though.

Yes, its a design defect with the card - due to manufactures using poor capacitors on the PCB. Its not sapphire specific according to the following article and new batches should be OK! :)
