I was thinking of buying a new Golf for 2014....or maybe a used Audi A4 automatic. What is good or not so good about A4s from 2011 onwards?
    I don't want older than 2011.

Any pitfalls or known problems I should be aware of? Probably have a preference for 2.O diesels

The Multitronic box in the A4 isn't a great auto box in my opinion. It's very slow to respond to inputs, especially from a standstill. Makes getting on to roundabouts in busy periods fun, especially in the wet.

Plant foot, wait half a second, get yellow flashing light on the dash and lots of bouncing from the front wheels as they scrabble for grip.

Why they haven't put the S-Tronic box in at this stage is a mystery (it's now availble, but only on 177ps quattro's or 3.0Tdi's).

Passat CC with the DSG box would be a much better drive. Volvo S60 D3 Geartronic would be a much better all round car.

Audi Multitronic boxes aren't renowned for their reliability either.
