Chinese, we Irish seem to be devout fans, but why?

Indian take-away, much tastier, healthier, easier to cook at home!

    My personal favourite,

    Veg samosas, to start

Chicken pathia (hot and sour chicken dish, spicy tomato sauce) with pilau rice on the side (Mains) garlic,.onion, coriander naan bread to'dip'

Lastly, kulfi (Indian ice cream) to end the meal.

Mods, please add poll... Chinese or Indian.

Why are most of us Irish obsessed with the Chinese take away?

I wouldn't be too generous with how healthy indian takeaways are. Heinous amounts of salt and they're cooked with massive amounts of oil - about 4-6 tbsp per portion.

Because it tastes better. I find Chinese way easier to cook. also.

Because our own food is a load of shíte.

Which is an outright lie, food is one thing we do well. Indian/Chinese is cheap and quick OP, and there's fooking lots of them, that's probably why.

    Needs a poll OP!

    Can't stand Indian food blueerghh:p

Not a big fan of Chinese take away either(greasy, salty imo)
But would pick Chinese over Indian

    In Ireland?

    And it's not even close.

Cooked at home, healthiest 'take-aways' by far though. Onion, garlic, ginger, and tomato... Can't be unhealthy!

My missus can't handle spicy food so we usually get Chinese, I do love Indian though. I live in a decent size town and there are easily 4 or 5 Chinese restaraunts to each Indian one.

Indians are dearer than a Chinese, might be a factor. Also there are more Chinese takeaways around than Indian, helps Chinese popularity. Then again, the quality from either is really from experience and word of mouth.

I prefer Indian food, I was never really a fan of Chinese cuisine.

Still - if you're doing it right(from a taste point of view) a lot of oil/butter/ghee as well.

I think that healthy Chinese food suffers less from being made healthy than Indian food.

I think that the worst indians are probably better than the worst chinese.
Bad Chineses tend to be more bland, greasy and salty. Once you get towards the more up-market end of the spectrum it starts to come down more to a matter of taste.

Good Chinese is yum. Bad chinese is like going to a **** chipper.

Indian all the way. Can't even stomach that generic, sugary gloop that passes for "Chinese" food here.

Lamb Rogan josh with pilau rice, fluffy naan bread, rieta, popadoms

    or

    3 in 1 with chicken's balls

    hmmmm

    I love both, I'm a real pig.

Indian is normally much better food, takes much longer and generally seems to be less sh*t in it. Still love swallowing a greasy chinese takeaway all the same...

I like the fish and chips better from the Chinese than the Indian.

Thai is clearly the answer. Kanum, Saba, Diep and the rest **** all over greasy Chinese and bland but hot Indian food.

If the indian food you're eating is bland than they're doing it wrong - seriously wrong.

Love Indian take away food. Very flavour some, Saag Aloo is delicious, their curries are amazing and the naan breads are tasty as hell!

After a Chinese I feel like I'm after eating the earths salt content in one sitting.

Indian food still hasn't sunk to the levels of takeaway Chinese in this country. I did have the displeasure of being asked if I wanted chips or rice with my order a while back though. So if that's any indication, it'll get there.

There are good Chinese/Thai (etc.) places though.

    Chinese is crap,

Though I doubt I ever actually had one that was genuine for instance why is the only thing I ever want which is dumplings, never ever on the menu... as for indian I wonder is Naz still open.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,992 ✭✭✭✭gurramok

I've never ever wasted an Indian takeaway no matter how much they put on the plate, I have with a Chinese though but that maybe due to low quality of that particular local.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,391 ✭✭✭Mysteriouschic

I'm not too fond of spicy food although the mild curries are ok. I prefer chinese food.

The Chinese win this war for me, I could eat Chinese food 4-6 times a week no bother, with Indian grub I have to be in the mood for it and that only occurs 3 or 4 times a year.

Indian is nicer, but I'm away travelling at the moment and I really miss Chinese when I'm drunk or hungover.
