    Any potential release date yet?

Also, Does the Horizon box combine the STB & Router/Modem? Can't find a answer anywhere!

    Thanks :D

Dont' know anything about a date, but I've seen the user manual online somehwere and it does combine the STB and the Modem. There's N wifi and a 4port gigabit router!

    Can't wait to get one!

Undutchable, how does the streaming tv to other devices work? Do you need to have an app installed or can you use an ip address from the box? Have a blackberry playbook and am expecting it to only support ios and android :(

At the moment there is only an app for ios devices, android is promised but nothing for blackberry as yet.

It's just an idea of the price we'll have for it here. Maybe we'll be paying a few euro more than that.

Mike Fries said its be a "few euro extra". I think 13 euro is a bit high?

It does seem high. If the on demand content is vastly increased (to compete with Netflix) then they could possibly justify it I suppose.

I have a friend working for UPC but a previous post mysteriously disappeared so I guess I shouldn't repeat what he told me about dates again or maybe I will mysteriously disappear. UPC are a powerful entity.

UPC can't stop individuals posting online particularly if they don't work for them. So if you have any info please do share... :)

Can't wait for it to come out, looks like a pretty decent UPC box at last! Wish they kept the QWERTY keyboard on the remote.

There's a rather nice public demo of a more recent version of Horizon in English here :

It'd give you a much more realistic idea of what they've been up to. It looks *very* slick compared to other STB software I've seen to date.

    English manual viewable here.

Quite a bit of detail in there. One nice thing I noticed is the return of a channel list (yay!). It's been an annoyance of mine that if you want to switch to a channel, you have to either remember it's number (unlikely), use the guide (very slow to load) or keep flipping until you reach it (very slow too, with 200 channels or so to get through).

Came across this review randomly, its in Dutch but you still get a nice feel for it.

Talked to some upc engineers about it yesterday and they were sceptical we'll be seeing it rolled out any time soon. They said there's lots of problems with it in the Netherlands. One laughed and said, maybe it'll be 'great' in 2 or 3 years.

Make of that what you will!

UPC techs have recently been trained in on installing these boxes, they are being released for testing very soon now!!

According to a recent poster here who later deleted his posts the boxes are already being tested, mainly by UPC employees.

Reading from the list of problems is like reading a list of what the current box does. How retarded are they that they haven't gotten this right, this was their Big Chance™?

Do you work for upc? You never seem to have a bad thing to say about them.

Stupid move releasing a buggy piece of hardware in 2 markets.

If I had nothing bad to say why would I post a link to a news piece that's negative? Wake up sonny. And no I don't work for UPC -- I am a customer though. And if they do release a very buggy piece of kit here they'll be eaten alive on this forum and others I'd imagine.

I've lost count of the amount of times I've seen people write on these boards that they don't want to go to UPC cos the Box is brutal.

Well it turns out that the new box is brutal too yet you follow it up by saying
All it will take is a few software updates. still looks great.

What makes you think that UPC can get their old box so wrong, release a new box to 2 markets that doesn't work properly and that it'll be sorted with 'a couple of software updates'.

Do you think these updates will come quickly or do you think UPC will be more intent on rolling the box of bugs (that people are expected to pay extra for) to other markets to bring in more revenue? The current HD box has had bugs for as long as it's been around in this country and was never fixed with a couple of software updates.
And if they do release a very buggy piece of kit here they'll be eaten alive on this forum and others I'd imagine.

They already knew it had bugs in one market and happily rolled it out to a second market with the same issues. What makes you think they wouldn't do the exact same thing in this market?

Not sure what your beef with me is, what you're trying to prove or exact point.
Is the new box brutal? It has issues for sure according to the link I posted. But going by what I've seen in videos, tech reviews online and comments from folk who've actually used the box it seems to be very good indeed. After reading the manual I'm really looking forward to using it. If anything it's over specced and I can see some users being confused by some of the functionality and how different aspects of the interface have been changed. BTW I've never had any major issues with the current HD box that friends of mine with Sky, for instance, have also experienced such as dropped recordings and series link issues. My main beef is the brutal remote. The interface can be quite slow and, in terms of design, agricultural.
According to stuff I've read online the main issues with Horizon should be solved with software updates. Why do I think they'll have less issues when its released here? Sky. If the box is as good as it's made out to be and it will be a major shell in UPC'S artillery in gaining more TV viewers AND keeping existing ones. If not it'll be a major chance lost for them.I hope they do it because it'll be a better viewing experience for customers such as me. I've been following news tidbits about the Horizon project for two years now and will be disappointed if it falls on its face as a modern way of getting and viewing content. I mean they had me when they said it had six tuners!

Is there a link to the manual?

I was holding out not switching to sky for this box however maybe I'll go over for a year. UPC moved me off the new customer price and I feel like I could do better, might just try the loyality dept like the last time.

€110 up front is a bit steep, especially as you will never actually own the box.
