    Oil+filter @5k miles
    Air+fuel @10k miles
    Gearbox+ axles @ 20-25k miles

Gearbox? I've yet to do gearbox oil and there is over 130K miles......manual say's nothing about it. Should it be looked at?

I've smelled gearbox oil before, that's enough to turn me off doing it!!

Personally I would change the gear oil as as with any oil it'll go off over time and especially at that mileage it would help. Most cars never have their gear oil changed though.

Every year approaching the winter months. I do around 10,000 km a year.

I'd check tyres, water, oil - the usual stuff - every week or other week, too.

    BMW 535d:

Oil/Filter every 8-10k kms or so which works out about 3 times per year.
Air/Fuel filter once a year which is about every 25k kms.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

    Once a year/every 5-7k miles.

1.8 TDCI Cmax, schedule is 25k km, I change the oil every 20k km.
Since I'll soon be doing 1000km a week, I'd be changing the oil every other week if my intervals where any shorter.
Did someone say oil change 5k km?
Maybe in the 70's with a Morris Minor with the 15w40 oil of the time if covering feck all miles.
Otherwise just a total waste of money.

E36 323i. Oil / oil filter every 9k miles, air filter every 18k miles. 194,000miles and still running well.

It good to see people on here servicing their cars regularly and that i'm not too excessive with my service intervals:D. T/B next to be done to my car, but I'll let the main dealer look after that.

My reason for starting this tread was from an article on Car Mechanics where the author was describing his experiences of the Terra clean system, he also mentioned that he serviced his X5 every 4,000 miles:eek:. Now that is probably excessive.

My car has been main dealer serviced in the UK for the most of its life and has been looked after by the vw main dealer in Cork for the past few years before I got hold of it. Only major item replaced was the dmf and clutch main dealer did that two years ago.

Just out of curiousity; what do you guys put into your service logs? do you write down what you did and just staple the receipts to the page?

You reckon this is sufficient to maintain a full service history on the car if you look to sell it down the line?

05 Legacy 2.0 petrol. I do it myself every 10k Kms. I changed the plugs to ultra long life platinum a when I got it as they're a pig to get at in the boxer engine so I only have to change oil and filter and then the air filter every other service.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 920 ✭✭✭Ron Burgundy II

I just keep my receipts in a file and write the mileage on the top of the receipt.

5000 miles seems a tad excessive to be changing the filters. I get mine done every 12-15k km or so (would probably change the oil more regularly).

So why put clean oil through a dirty filter?

Me, manufactures guidelines at every 7,000 miles on my Clio.

Our local recycling centre takes the oil. We normally gather up a drum and bring it there.

Or you could get a waste oil burner. But I've about a years worth in old paint buckets that I keep meaning to bring to the recycling center

nearly €15 a liter all the same could have bought 2 x 4l for cheaper
    Edit:
That is the edge oil isn't it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

I was up there so got the lot in one go. I also get a discount. And €12 isn't nearly €15. :)

I heard of a lad who used to change his oil pretty much every time he hit the Vtec. Each to their own I suppose!

Oil + filter every 3k or three months.
Air filter every 10K or every year.
    Coils + plugs + leads every 30K.
Gear box + diff + brake fluid every 30K.

Oil & filter every 5k miles - which is about every 2 months

Fuel filter every second oil change

Air filter changed as needed - gets very dirty at times :(

Diff oils, t.case & gearbox about 30k miles, maybe, have 20k done since last one,

All nipples that i can get at receive a periodic shot of grease whenever i feel like crawling around :pac:

No one cares about stamps on a 13 year old car. :) I just like being able to show the work was done.
