I can see Matt Simis buying that and having it converted alright :)

"This car needs nothing" - apart from a new NCT. It's within the 3-month early period, and was done early the last time. Maybe, as langdang said, any car on sale with less than 3 months NCT left has probably already been put through and failed.

Great price though, and if a good mechanic gave it the all-clear as is....
Last tested 01 March 2011 as far as I can tell using Limerickman's suggestion back along.

As it was under ten years old when last tested it would of got the full two years, so being tested in march 2011 sounds about right.

A lad I know has a similar one for sale for a long time with absolutely no interest he is breaking it now, shame really its a lovely car. His real world mpg is only 8 though, which works out at 90c per mile in petrol alone, you can see why no interest
As a matter of interest, how much was a brand new CL500 at the time? Surely in the region of €100k mark, no?

Well you can get that from the cert:p, but what the cert won't tell ya is if it was tested recently and failed, and is being flogged on Donedeal while it still has a valid NCT. In this case it does not appear to have been tested recently.

A lot more than that. I don't have historic figures for prices in Ireland, but I do for the Netherlands with a very similar VAT and VRT regime as here, resulting in very similar prices for high end cars of that era (in fact a little bit lower than here)

The base price of a '02 CL500 (with zero options) in the Netherlands was €144k...

I wonder how the ad came up with €187, but I would not be surprised if they have that from the original invoice

According to the Mercedes Ireland website in June 2002 http://web.archive.org/web/20020602080951/http://www.mercedes-benz.ie/mercedes-benz.html - click 'configurator' on the left, then click the appropriate car in the middle screen (CL class in this case) you can see the base price was €149,302. So option it up from there. This one looks fairly standard though (no fancy command or wheels) so I doubt there's 40k of options on it.

I've a weak spot for the S280 Mercs but not the newer version, this model was built to last, I think this is the same version Princess Diana crashed in when she was in Paris years ago.

    Hmmm...

Odd car. Paint looks oddly new for a '96, the seller says it just needs new tyres for the NCT yet it's been on Adverts for a year now. And the first comment mentions that it's selling for 'for more than double it just sold for'. I can't find a reference to the original ad, but something is dodgy. Pity, it looks like a nice car and I love the old Merc coupes.

Ah. My brother was going to buy that a while ago. He never bought it in the end because he couldn't get out to Mayo. Guy who bought it tried flogging it on for circa €5k after buying a few weeks beforehand.

    Original ad, http://www.adverts.ie/car/mercedes-benz/e-class/1996-mercedes-benz-e-class-for-sale/1096166

Car stands out like a sore tumb with that paint

That's gas. I had it for 3 years after it bought it from you, great car. The rust scabs started to get worse though and when we moved to the coast, the salty air had a field day..
My old car. I originally imported it from the UK. Still looks good in the pics, I put that km/h clock in it.

    Was Bose sound system standard?
Either way its depreciated by what 98%? It's mad the depreciation in these lux cars over a decade!

You could buy a new polo or Kia rio or run this for a couple of years. I'd chose the latter

Who'd a thunk it! That a bright red Italian Stallion with one of the most treasured motorsport badges adorning its graceful lines and once piloted by the Formula 1 legend and all time record breaker, Michael Schumacher, would every turn up at bangernomics money ..........

An unusual one, but lot of car for the money. I think they're a cracking looking estate.

01 MG ZTT Estate 2.5 petrol, NCT 8/13, 67,000 miles, full service history, half leather, €850.
