Ha ha conflicting advice.....back to square 1 RR ;)

LOL..Yes indeed. Someone else may post yet and tip the scales in one direction or the other. I'm not even sure what a proper taper for a HM should be, I'd have to look it up. And also this is only my third week back after two two week layoffs since Christmas so havent even been following a plan yet except to get back running gradually and gradually upping the LSRs. This HM is coming a bit early for me to give it a lash but I want to do it for lots of different reasons, most of which are nothing to do with my running.(I know that may sound strange)

I'd wait and see how the legs are next weekend. If they are feeling good then only go with the 2 days rest but either way no hard session for the last week before the race. Even if its not a goal race you are going to push yourself so will want the legs as rested as possible.

Great running, nice to get a PB when you're only getting back. Shows real progress.

    4.24 very easy miles @9:49avg

Nice to get over the 100 mile mark after a slow start to year. Back on track now for 1000 mile challenge.

I've also noted that I've hit the 600 mile mark on my runners. Will have to change them soon.Better do before Croke Park II kicks in!

Check out the new Nike shop in Blanchardstown. Bought a pair there for €42 and possibly the best I've had!

Cheers for that. I was wondering should I go back to Amphibian King after such a good experience last time or just get another pair of my Brooks Adrenalines again..maybe online????

No - unfortunately no racers (at least last week when I was there).
I went in to look at LGlides & Racers, but didn't have the Glides in my size and had no racers.

I've worn the L Eclipse a few times now and find the pain I was getting in my forefoot & heel (pf??) has disapated.

I'd advise AK as you're just coming back from injury? The Nike staff are .......emmmm.......not as 'educated' !

For those who have read this already on DCM graduates thread ,apologies. i'm just too tired to write anything different or add anything else here!

Did a club run tonight. Plan was to do 8 miles at easy pace and maybe do some @8.30 which is planned/hoped for pace at HM on Paddy's day.

Well to say it didn't go to plan is an understatement. StephenR couldnt make tonight so I was on my own in terms of being a newbie. There weren't many people down so went out with a two others who were clearly at a different level to me. Felt like I had to try stay with them as long as I could though otherwise what was the point just turning up and running on my own. I've joined the club so club runs aren't meant to be easy I suppose.

Anyway stuck with them for first three and then one of the group went off at faster pace .I was never going to go with him. So I stuck with the girl that was left and we kept together for another 1.5 until she turned around and headed back home as she lived in that area and it suited her rather than head back to clubhouse. So I was on my own for rest of run.Made a conscious decision to slow down slightly but try and keep it going reasonably fast to make it a bit of a session for me. I'd have tomorrow as rest day I told myself. Kept it going to end and was pretty tired after it. Fourth day in row running which started with XC race and finished with a run on the fast side for me. I think the splits tell their own story.I'm quite impressed with them though if I do say so myself(for my level anyway)

    7.54 miles @ 8.12avg

    Splits: 8:37(traffic lights), 7:56, 8:15, 8:15, 8:08, 8:22, 8:19, (8:08)

If I can keep that pace for 7.5 surely I can keep 8.30 pace for 13.1 on Mar17th????? I know it doesn't work like that but I'm feeling positive about it especially if I can get two more good running weeks

Ha ha..yes. I'm a real night bird me. It's no wonder early morning runs dont suit me. It takes me a few hours to wind down in evenings especially after working late or doing a late run.

Like myself. I'm a night owl too. Although that is a given with all my ranting about early morning running! :D

Well done on all the running and glad you're getting down to Raheny. you're great for knowing your pace etc - do you just check your watch or do you have an app or something?

I was looking at the pace of the Raheny runs you mentioned, and thinking if you want an easier one, you should come down at 7.30 on Wednesdays to the Meet & Train. I don't always do them, but there would be beginners a lot slower than you, but also three or four runners whose race times for 5k & 10k sound similar to yours. (I'm terrible, I never know my pace, I never look at my watch. I only know my pace when I've done a race, so I can't tell you the pace the group does, but we did 5 miles easy enough last night).

We have a Facebook page (Raheny Shamrock AC Fit for Life) so you could 'like' that & you'd see our race times etc & see if it would suit you while you're still recovering from the back.

I'm going down to the club tonight at the usual training time for 7 miles, if that fits your plan?

Hi HelenAnne, thanks for dropping in.With regard to the pace, yes I have a Garmin watch.I'm a bit of a slave to it at times but I'm getting better at knowing what pace I'm doing roughly without looking at it now. It's more useful for the long runs where you don't want to go too fast and you can keep your pace in check.

Re the 7.30 group, yes I'm willing to give that a shot some time and see what it is like. It's a bit disheartening turning up at 6.30, not knowing who is going to be there and then end up doing half the run on your own. I do want to test myself too though so I wouldn't want it too easy either.

I don't do facebook so not sure if I can view your page. i'd probably have to set up an account?

Only seeing your post now so sorry about that, it didnt suit anyhow as I had to go to funeral earlier and then do the shopping so didnt get out till 9 in the end but I really appreciate your offer.

I'm thinking of doing the 2 mile winter league race next wednesday instead of going down tuesday as it might be a good way to meet more people. Are you doing that, or any of the meet & train group?

Yes, that does sound good for long runs. I don't do that, but I'm probably a slave to following others' paces - I tend to let someone more experienced pace the long run for me, so suppose that's more or less the same thing as using a Garmin!

I suppose when you're running with others, there's always the chance it will be a tiny bit too fast or too slow. I seem to vary between days when I'm working to keep up and days when I'm running very easy and still leading the group (and days when i run on my own and probably don't push myself enough). But I suppose if you're on a plan & doing the marathon you need to keep an eye on it more.

Yes, I'm doing the race. So are some of the men you know from Parkrun, and loads of the Meet & Train always do it too. My friend Denise always uses her iPhone for pace, so she'll be able to tell you what pace we do on Wednesdays. See you there! I can introduce you to the Meet & Trainers.

Had intended this to be an easy run but ended up running to feel. Legs felt heavy after 2 miles but there was still something there so kept going at a pace that felt faster than easy but still felt comfortable. Just wanted to see what I could do on tired legs .Didnt look at the watch till the end and was able to pick up the pace towards the end.

    Splits: 8:44, 8:34, 8:13, 8:27, 8:00, (6:53)

Really happy with that. I would have been wrecked after a run like that this time last year, but felt grand after stretching and cool down.

Had a look back over your log, you're not in bad shape now!

You had a 9.3m run before your injury at 8:00 average pace, how far off that do you feel (he says, throwing down a challenge)

And it's not midnight yet, so won't expect a reply til 00:03......there or there abouts :-)

I must have been lying about that:)..are you sure...can't find it on my Garmin calendar.

But to try answer the question anyway, I reckon with another couple of months good solid training I could attempt that. I've a 1:28 ten mile time from race series last year and I'll be looking to take a big chunk out of that later in the year.

I'll know better after HM on 17th but I know that course is quite hilly but I'll be aiming to break that ten mile time on the way to new HM PB.

    Ooops, I said that out loud , didn't I:eek:

Working my way through reading logs now so got in there a few minutes early:D
