I would have assumed most people view bodybuilders as narcissistic people who have nothing better to do than spend all their time in the gym.

whoever assumes that is an idiot...

And someone who trains and has muscle doesn't exactly make them a bodybuilder

bodybuilders do contests/shows big difference

I noticed you haven't answered my question... why would anyone respect anybody because of their bodies?

because it shows they have self disipline.

know what they want and get it

    aren't lazy

    love sex

have better mental health than people who don't exercise

    look better

    are more confident

    etc

Wasn't meant to be original, it's from the Lyons tea ad.

Because getting a good body requires dedication and commitment.

Those two traits are worthy of respect in any field of training be they intellectual or physical.

I'd repsect someone to kept kit and looked after themselves, but not people who pumped iron and went in for shows, as I always felt it was a bit vain (perhaps unfairly). Same as those x-factor/x's got talent/voice of... shows.

I did it for a few years back in my early 20s but gave it up because I found it to be mind-numbingly boring after a while. Too many mirrors as well.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

By bodybuilder, I meant somebody who trains with the main goal of building muscle.

Because people who are " ripped " or whatever have an overwhelming love of themselves and expect admiration from others and want to be noticed.... Hence the tight t-shirts and fake tan

1 - what goes on in the gym....

2 - Better mental health? Maybe than someone who doesn't exercise but as you said, there is a difference.

3 - Look better? I take that bit about pehaps unfaily being vain back. Looking better is not a positive trait.

I'd also question the "lazy" bit. I know very smart, inteeligent people who work hours on end on various projects, but never go to a gym.

Self discipline or just nothing better to do in their lives?
I'm not too sure about the mental health claim based on personal experiences.
And look better... ah, no. Maybe to themselves, not to me.

I don't see much to respect.
I would treat people who work out pretty much the same as I would other people. I might talk a bit slower when addressing them, but that's about it.

Respect is earned by achieving for everyone, not for yourself.

Do you show as much respect to them as you would to someone thats ripped/great shape/built like a tank???

Being ripped/great shape/built like a tank does not make me respect someone.

    That's a pretty broad generalisation.

Not everybody with a good physique is a narcissistic tool.

and an obese/scrawny lazy unhealthy person does??

Again, why would you decide on who to respect or not on how they look?
It seems a highly superficial way of looking at people.

I judge people by the way they treat others, not by the way they look.

If they were intelligent and interesting to talk to, yes. Absolutely. But I'd say the same if he was well-built and worked out.

I don't rate respect for people on their physiques.
