hi all. just started running recently and am regularly doing 10k distance. have noticed a tightness at the back of my foot below the ankle. im just wondering if theres anywhere in the northwest (im in sligo) where i can go to get proper advice on what runners would suit me best. any specialist running shops that may be able to advise me. id prefer this than going to a website.. thanks

No specialist running shops in the Sligo area. The local sports shops all stock runners - Lifestyle, Elverys & John Kent. The level of advice you will get varies from helpful to just wrong. Your closest specialist shop is Amphibian King in Oranmore Galway, which is well recommended on this forum. Given the number of people out running in this area, maybe the AK boys will consider opening a branch in the North West - would pull in people from Mayo & Donegal too.

They won't even open one down Cork/Limerick direction where there is a need for a good shop. I had a guy do a "gait analysis" for me there recently. I gave him loads of rope. He talked loads of BS and tried to push a pair that were wrong for me only to openly admit that he was not much of a runner and that "I know best myself" and I know very very little about shoes/gait etc but it was 10 times more than this guy.

Better to spend on a some petrol then a trip to the physio. prevention is better than cure.
