Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

So, the mod team has decided that it would be a good idea to allow a small scale "For Sale" thread.

Here is what you have to do.

    1. Make an ad on a buy & sell type website (for example Adverts.ie)

    2. If you want, stick a link in a post in this thread only. DO NOT START A SEPARATE THREAD, YOU WILL BE BANNED.

    3. You can give a short description/post pics of what you are selling

    4. NO chat allowed in this thread, however, questions about items can be asked here, but they may be better suited in adverts.ie to avoid repetition.

    5. NO posts offering equipment for sale without a link to a sale website

    6. Please refrain from making or accepting € offers in this forum

    7. Offers posted in this thread will be deleted and/or the user banned.

    8. Private Sellers ONLY, that means no commercial sales are allowed. If you are found to be a commercial seller, you will be banned.

Any of the places doing Craft beers will be more than happy to supply you. Failing that, Local Pub, but they're unlikely to have large non-returnables..

All suggestions so far are good, I just ask friends for their empties or an even more fun way to do it is to drink lots of bottles of beer and keep them :P

Anyway, anybody know where I'd get a cheap fermenting bin (23L) with a tap on it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 936 ✭✭✭leggit

In serious need of a set of digital weighing scales. Batch primed my IPA with a set of scales that I'm pretty sure are older than I am!

Hopefully I got away with it but if anybody knows where I can get a cheap one then that would be great.

Tescos have a half decent one for about €10, you could probably get better/cheaper if you checked ebay/amazon etc, but the tesco one is grand. IIRC it's supposedly accurate to 1g.

got some stuff off them recently... about 3-4 weeks turnaround ...tracking dont really work on the site...but panic not..

Dealextreme is an excellent site for random electrical stuff if you have no hurry for it.

I have gotten bottles for free in the past of small restaurants, particularly pisserias, chinese, indians. Because they wouldn't sell massive amounts of beers and return em, ususally just have cobras, peroni, singha and chang bottles.. nice bottles aswell... they are only looking for a way to dump em

Arrived last week, ordered 20th November. Seems to be good quality, returns consistent weights to 0.1g .

The tap is a disaster trying to remove, clean and refit (I never managed it). I have one but now use it for coins. IMO you'd be better off with a glass carboy

Also these small places might buy the beer in supermarkets or cash & carries, rather than from distributors to pubs who might include removal/disposal costs in their stupidly high prices to publicans.

Another thing I have got from restaurants is fermenters, I have gotten empty veg oil containers and washing up liquid containers. Both obviously need to be very well cleaned, the washing up liquid will be self cleaning but you want no residue which fills the head of beer. I prefer them to many commercial fermenters since you have lids and better hands to lug them about. They are typically 20-25L

Looking for a boiler as trying to make the step up to extract if anyone selling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 911 ✭✭✭sharingan

I picked up a Buffalo 40L Catering kettle. 40L is a bit big for extract brewing, so you could pick up a 20-30L version for cheaper. But 40L allows be to do BIAB and partial mash and still hot 30L target volume.

    Love it so far.

hi all, decided to dip my toe into a bit of wine making, totally new to this and im looking for some good used wine making equipment if anyone can help.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,485 ✭✭✭✭Khannie

Good luck. You don't need a huge amount for wine. Off the top of my head:

    2 x fermenting buckets
siphon or tubing (tubing if your buckets have taps)
    hydrometer
    trial jar
    Stirring paddle
    Bottling wand
    Bottles
Possibly a corking device if you're not using screw caps.
    A wine kit.

I may have left stuff out and if so, someone else will be along to remind me what it was....

There are a few home brew sites out there that do overnight delivery for a fiver. Home brew west and the home brew company are both very popular.
