    upgrading the brakes on a 1960's high horsepower car to a modern standard would be an even better example.

    I'm following a thread over on retro rides (UK site) about a lad renovating a Green Goddess 50's fire engine (big 4X4 truck) with drum brakes all round. Imagine having a crash with that and the judge asking why you had such bad brakes - "well your honour, the law prevents me from upgrading them"

    I'd have no problem with a law specifiying the modification has to meet the manufacturers original vehicle spec or upgrades it, but not a blanket banning of all modifications.

    There needs to be a system like the UK's SVA (Single Vehicle Approval) - a points system where they rate each mod and if you are too far away from original spec you can't use the car - simple and fair
