    Sending money back home???

I cant understand why the people who have left our shores and have found work abroad are not doing this.

The eastern European citizens that came here in the boom all did this and sent millions back to their home countries - It beggars belief that our young adults are not doing this when the country is in dire need of help. As far as I can see our young people are over there making good money and p*issing it up against a wall.

Im not sure of the figures, but if say there was 50k Irish abroad working, Sending €100 a month home, that equates to €60m a year.

Its not much, but it's a start!!

EDIT: Money being sent home as in to their own families - not the state! I was wondering why so many were against it!

Why do you think we're entitled to a cut of their wage?

It's their money, which in many cases they worked hard for so why should they send it back?

    Ok so,

ALL of the eastern European citizens who came work here sent home loads and loads of money.

NONE of the emigrant Irish save money or send home money.

Who would you like them to send the money to?

    Happydude
    1 happy drive
    Happy avenue
    Co.Happy?

If I went over to Australia and managed to get a decent job, I'd be living it up while I could, not saving it for when I get back to Ireland!

The US already do. There's precedent.

Because we're not THAT poor. Most employed people are struggling because of a combination of large mortgages and health insurance plus an addiction to LED TVs and expensive phones. And the misconception that Tesco is the cheapest place to buy food.

What business is it of yours what they do with their money? I live abroad and my mam wouldn't want me to send money home.

Why should people whose futures were sold out to pay for other people's mistakes and debt be obliged to send money back here? The reason they're over there is there's fcuk all work here in the first place.

There's a big differance in what other nationalities do when they come here to work and what we do when we go abroad in this day and age. When the polish , indians , romanians etc they came here with the sole reason to find work andsend money back home because...

    A. Their was no well paying jobs in their country , a €200 cleaners pay packet over here would go a long long way in poland as the cost of living is a lot less. Most would have had large families with no money who were relying on this , they wouldn't be over here to live the high life, they would save the rest and be able to buy a house back home when they were finished.

    B. We had a lot of work at the time available.

The reason we go abroad and don't do this is because...

    A. Our cost of living is very high and the pay for most jobs in Australia/Canada isn't huge compared to here. Of course this is refering to general bar work etc
    B. We aren't as bad off as we sometimes make out, certainly not on the scale of what some of the imigrants coming here were.
    C. We ARE going over there to go on the rip, live it up etc and not solely to work and send money home.

It's a common thing these days , 'Oh there's no work in Ireland' I better go abroad work in a bar and get pissed for a few years...I'd be willing to bet if you stayed here and looked hard enough for a job you'd find a better one than picking apples in a vineyard half the world away.

Yea, if I were to live and work abroad I would in my hole send money back here.

That's like a tax for being Irish :pac:

As long as they keep blowing their wages, no matter what country they are in, the global economy will tick along nicely.

I've seen dumb threads in my time but my god this is actually ridiculous. It's made worse by the fact that I'm pretty sure OP is completely serious!!

I'm off to gouge out my mind's eye.

It's not that ridiculous, don't forget yhat large swathes of this country were built almost solely on repatriated money, and still are today.

Im not sayin to send it home to randomers ffs, But I know alot of people in oz who have families here really struggling to keep things going, yet their sons/daughters are away living it up - the attitude is they have gone and they are doing well and good look to them. I just think some families here could do with some help and I cant see why people dont help out. I'm sure many do, but I havnt seen it!
