What is a "dedicated copper solution"?

    I've been priced a "dedicated copper solution" 2Mb Down / 2Mp Up @ €300 per month.

    How is this different from DSL at say the 24mb Down / 1Mb up DSL @ €24 from Smart or any of the other DSL products? Apart from guaranteed speeds...

    Probably SDSL , you pay dearly for the upload speed of course. Get Digiweb Metro, much cheaper and faster than that.

    Actually got this installed this morning. 30mb/3mb. Getting 2 - 7mbps down and 300kbps - 1.25mbps up.

    Is it the contention issue that justifies the €200+ per month difference in cost? Is 2mb/2mb uncontended four or fives times better than 24mb/1mb contended?

    Nope. Contention itself isn't a problem if the network is managed properly.

    As more fibre backhaul comes on stream contention and congestion should become less of an issue.

    To a business that needs guaranteed upload speed, that 1mbit contended upload could easily be 100k in peak hours
