To put it in perspective the costa Concordia is way bigger than the titanic, if the titanic was in southampton today it would be dwarfed by modern vessels and look quite unimpressive.

I doubt people would be arsed going on a small cruise ship with no swimming pools, running tracks, cinemas, kids play zones available on any modern large ship.

Hope they don't cast Leonardo DiCaprio again. He'd be too old this time round, imo.

I suppose its just dressing up really, a bit like Bloomsday in a ghoulish sort of way.

Billy Zane could do with some work.

Used have an interest in the Titanic well before the movie came out.
Cameron's movie finished it, even the Cobh 100th commemoration fell for it, Celine Dion on a PA system screeching out over Cork Harbour. Sheesh.

Think this replica idea at best is cloying and kitsch and at worst, just plain ghoulish.

Having been out see for over 20 years, last 8 as captain, the superstition that comes with it says that you should never ever sail on a vessel with the same name if it has sunk.
It's bad luck,so good luck to everyone who wants to go on board.

but then what do you do if some guy names his boat "fred" (terrible example but my mind stalled) and it sinks....and then you on the other side of the world name your boat "fred"...

is it still bad luck if you don't know another boat called fred sunk?

If captain and crew went down with it yes.
If you read about Berge Istra and berge vanga, you will know what I mean:D

plus if the rats start running, those in steerage will have a quicker warning that thur be a sinkin going on.

if there is internet onboard they will need this installing for realisms sake-

'Luck' is a load of old cobblers, meeting a red haired woman/saying certain words on board/changing a ship's name. Heard of one guy who thought it bad luck to bring a banana on board...what's a banana boat skipper supposed to do??!!

Er no thanks, nothing to do with superstition rather being I'd prefer not to be in the company of strange people who like dressing up as victims of a tragedy (when it's not Halloween).

That doesn't only go for the Titanic II.
If you wanna go on ships called Berge Istra, berge vanga, bourbon dolphin etc,be my guest.

Titanic II should be a luxury submarine.

It was a marvel of the age and Belfast should rightly celebrate it. The electrical systems onboard alone were well ahead of their time. But the greedy owners and some truly bad luck put it on the course to oblivion: using lower grade metal, foregoing full bulkheads, insisting on speed, not enough lifeboats, the list goes on.

Why not celebrate her sister ships? The Britannic served in the First World War, as did the Olympic, which was built before Titanic.

The Olympic was badass, a German u-boat picked a fight with it, so it just rammed the u-boat and sunk it

Somehow both ships seemed to be hit by bad luck along the way:eek:

Well Titanic hit an iceberg, Brittanic hit a mine, but the Olympic had an illustrious career!

Olympic was dubbed 'Old Reliable' by its crew. It did cause one accident when it got a slap from a warship that broke its moorings on account of Olympics captain (none other than a certain EJ Smith) acting the boy racer.

Getting attention from U boats during WW1 wasn't unheard of. A merchant vessel (and a slow-ish one at that) acting as a troop carrier getting the better of one is pretty exceptional.

I think it would be good if it sank, then we could have a sequel to the film.

I'd of loved to see the German captain as the Olympic was going to ram it.

'Ahh a troop ship, let's bully it.....pew pew......OH SHI---' *SMASH*

    That's really interesting.

So, say somebody built a Marie Celeste II brigantine ship, would you sail in her? I mean, that ship didn't actually sink...

I was totally into historical maritime disasters before they were mainstream.
