the issue is the dishonesty of people who claim that drastic demographic shifts have been the norm throughout our history.

Ireland's history is awash with different peoples coming and going. What makes us abnormal, as it were, is that we didn't see many black or brown faces until relatively recent.

Migration is completely the norm in human history, nothing dishonest in that :)

Nobody, really? mmm not sure about that.
Has multiculturalism improved Ireland for everyone?

Examples please, and they're going to have to be on the scale of immigration into the country over the last decade to be considered "the norm".

I don't have the facts and figures to hand and even if I did, you still would find fault with them, so there's not much point, is there?

Migration, throughout history and across the globe is the norm. That's plain for all to see. Even the most blinkered.

As the son of an immigrant, let me say this - you're just going to have to deal with us. We mean you no harm :D

Inane comparison. Ireland is not being conquered, our/your culture is not being erased or plundered.

Unless it's the culture of fear, suspicion and ignorance. That's an abberation that needs to be stamped out.

On a personal level, how are your rights and cultures being trampled underfoot?

Yes, generations and centuries of migration and immigration is clearly bogus and obscure

And comparing new Irish folk to the Plantations is highly suspect, to say the least.

The only way I can really answer that is too say I have seen no reports or evidence that it damaged anyone.
I would not claim that there are not those who oppose it, but I have yet to be presented with any evidence that it has caused anyone any harm.

Show me evidence of any "mass" immigration!
Most of the immigrants in this stste are, according to the CSO , from the UK.
The single biggest group after that are Poles, a people very similar to ourselves.
So your problem is what exactly?

Hmm..I have a problem? Why does it matter that poles are similar to the irish? Lining up the ould wacism card there buddy?

So one minute you're saying immigration happens all the time and now it doesn't really happen at all.

So just for the giggles, prior to the poles arrival, when was the last intake of a non indigenous population to this country on a similar scale?

The big deal is that the bull**** argument people use to dismiss any criticism of globalisation is that its nothing new. In our specific case, the bull**** tiger boom was fuelled by cheap credit but also an unlimited influx of migrant labour.

Depending where you live, its nothing new. We're not used to it, because historically theres been feck all here to attract anyone.

Least you're honest enough to aknowledge that, not like this other shower wriggling around.

Just for gigggles would you care to show the post where I claimed "immigration happened all the time"? Go on waste your time , you wont find it. Apology accepted.

As for the rest of your prepubescent drivel, what has it to do with anything? You are rabble rousing about something that doesn't exist, in this instance "mass immigration"!
The only one lining up the "wacism" card is you, and you are piss poor at it!

Yeah, well last time I checked I was commenting on a post about Tyrellstown!
Racism is deplorable regardless of the colour or creed of the racist, I have never denied that!

If there was a poll in Ireland next week and every Irish citizen was asked a basic blunt question : "Is multiculturalism wanted?", I think we all know what the answer would be.

From my point of view I see the benefits as:
    1. Better women. Even mixed breed women can be very hot.
    2. Better range of food.
    3. No more Celtic Tiger taxi lines.
    4. Future Irish soccer team could be alot better. See France.
    5. Maybe Irish as a school subject could be dropped as so much time will be spent teaching English to more and more non-English speaking children.
We need to focus on the positives people.....
