Wasn't our fight, and giving the IRA weapons would only have resulted in more civilian deaths.

Of course it was! its the responsibility of the Irish state to protect the Irish people, the state failed and the people took it upon themselves.

How dare you say that it was our responsibility as a state!

The PIRA were our enemy too you know . . . .

It was though, an all out war with Britain would end in defeat, but collusion could of been an effective tool and could of limited civilian deaths, a well trained unit of the ARW posing as provos could wreak havoc on the Brits.

Michael Collins planned on paying and supplying IRA men in the north, he had the right idea.

You would have sent state forces over the border to kill policemen?

That's just bat**** crazy. The UK would have been entitled to defend itself, ie attack the Irish Defence Force.

The Curragh would have been bombed to crap.

Is this the most stupid post ever? I honestly think that out of the millions of boards posts this has to at least be top 10. Bravo.

What he/she is saying is that we could have armed them to fight from within, just like the British armed the Loyalists/Unionists and backed their discriminatory state. There is a difference from us attacking from the south. The British had already lost and feared a guerilla war, because it was unwinable.
We didn't have the balls to finish the job so the one constant in our divisive history, (the prescence of the British) is still here, as is the division.

The British sent their forces over the border plenty of times, obviously the soldiers would of been acting as PIRA men, not Irish soldiers.

How do you feel about the majority of people in N.I never wanting to be part of a UI? not then and not now, so you are angry with the irish government for not supporting the murder of civilans and police officers to try to force a UI against the will of the people.

You did not even use that right, the "jimmies rustled" only makes sence if some one displays anger or outrage, not mocking a retarted post with a hint of sympathy lol.

No they didn't. The odd time they strayed over the border they were rounded up.

It doesn't matter what they pretended to be, the fact is the ARW going into a foreign country and attacking their armed forces is an act of war.

How do you feel about the nationalists in NI not getting equal rights? being bullied by the unionist population, corrupt police force and trigger happy para's? I am angry about the Irish government doing nothing when our countrymen needed assistance defending their communities from a hostile population intent on burning them from the province.

No, juger is advocating an invasion of the UK.

I feel sad about all that, dark times made worse by both sides, I am happy now that my neighbours/friends that were once down trodden from the catholic community are now an integral and equal citizen of our great country. Great to see the pro UK support from both community's in the north.

It´s more some bitterness out of deep-rooted disappointment, I think.

I assume you understand the difference between stae and country and just choose to ignore it. These people were ethnically Irish but they were not Irish citizens. We had no moral duty to protect them.

There where plenty who where forced into partition too.
The 'constant' in the history of violence on this island is the prescence of the British. What I am saying is that we didn't finish the job off, and we should have.
The south of Ireland has seen peace, (for what will very soon be a century) when that 'constant' was removed and the mess they left was resolved.
Yes there are those who don't want to be part of a UI, but a UI is the only way the island will be at peace.
The Northern state failed, tragically. It cannot now function without the constant supervision and interaction of the Dublin and London governments and an international agreement.
It is limping along to a UI and many oppurtunities are being wasted because people won't embrace the inevitable.

And would you believe things only got better when the Provos started defending their community, kill us and we will kill you back. You mad sinn fein is in government? Im not too worried about a UI to be honest, as long as my country men aren't being beaten by the RUC, shot by British soldiers, whole estates under siege by blood thirsty unionist mobs then its all good... pity it took all the killing to change your treatment of the Nationalist community.
