Ah, there was no anti-Irish stuff. So who is "fenian ********" a dig at?

The word bastard is anti Irish racism?

If Fenian automatiy means Irish, then there'a a hell of a lot of confused souls in the east end of Glasgow who call themselves Fenians, maybe they were just calling them bastards?

I don't buy this Fenian is sectarian when you bloody call yourselves it week in week out, then get offended when someone adds the word bastard on the end. We've even had the word Fenian meaning Catholic not so long ago, do make up your minds.

Of course if I said it was a dig at the Scottish people in the east end of Glasgow who see themselves as Irish then it would be laughed at.

No, but you don't get it.

Some of them are proud to call themselves fenians but you can't call them that.

Because, well, you see,... ya dirty bigot!

I would totally agree if someone said that No Pope of Rome has absolutely no place in any football ground, but Celtic fans have lost any credibility about the word 'fenian' when there's things like this sung.

edit: And no, I'm not condoning the singing of songs containing 'fenian b******', but since Peppa Pig asked...

See the thing that gets me, a quick look around Rangers forums, or a chat with the vast majority of Rangers fans you meet in the street and you'll find that there is a genuine anger towards the idiots who rolled out the old party tunes yesterday.

But apparently that's not good enough for the people who have jumped the bandwagon on this thread, no they want heads to roll for this! They want every Rangers fan to kneel in front of them and plead for forgiveness!

That said, i know it's tough for many of you guys to have a chat with rangers fans, because lets face it - you quite simply don't associate with anyone outside your own little enclave of similar minded people - the idea of meeting one of those two-headed, 6 fingered protestant bigots in the street is the stuff of nightmares when you visit your little Gallowgate hovels on a nice wee day trip to Glasgow, isn't it?

Completely agree - the point is, though, that there is not the same anger coming from the club itself.
I've worked with a lot of Rangers fans down the years - I've yet to meet a six fingered one.
I don't expect the fans to have to offer apologies - that is up to Green and he hasn't done that yet, a fact that I'm sure a lot of Rangers fans are not impressed with either.

    It's always the same.

Some Rangers fans sing sectarian songs and all the Celtic fans descend on this thread in outrage.

Some Celtic fans fight amongst themselves and stab each other (I think the Dundee match supervisor called it "the worst i have seen in twenty years of football") and it's forgotten in about a day.

Double standards if ever I saw it.

why do you lot insist on singing sectarian songs :p

I've yet to meet a celtic fan who would regard themselves as a fenian never mind a 'fenian b*****d!:)

Apart from the usual nutters that is, much like the ones acccused of singing 'that' song:P

You've missed the point again, every rangers fan I have spoken to has been utterly disgusted by yesterday's events. Fair play to them, they want to move on from this stuff.

The problem I have is with the token response by the club and manager both carefully worded as to not offend the "fans" who disgraced themselves and by association the club,

Words like sensational and a little bit naughty are hardly showing the club wants to be distanced from those knuckle draggers.

0-1 Little. Great through ball to him and he calmly goes round the keeper and puts the ball in the net

Woeful defending from a free kick and from a free header Stirling equalise. Six minutes after the turn around

Rangers won't be stripped of titles according to BBC, can't say I'm surprised.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,340 ✭✭✭TheBuilder

The commission appointed by the Scottish Premier League to investigate alleged undisclosed payments by Rangers will not strip the club of any titles.

More detail is expected when the written decision is published at noon.

Lord Nimmo Smith has chaired the commission, which was appointed to decide if the company that formerly ran the club broke league rules.

Should Rangers be found in breach, other sanctions may be applied but there will be no stripping of titles.

The investigation relates to the period during which Rangers operated employee benefits trusts that were also the subject of a long-running tax tribunal.

HM Revenue and Customs had claimed the scheme, which was used to make £47.65m in payments to players and staff in the form of tax-free loans, was illegal.

Rangers disputed this and a First Tier Tax Tribunal ruled the scheme did not breach tax law.

HMRC has subsequently appealed to an Upper Tier Tax Tribunal.

Rangers won the SPL five times after initiating EBTs for players.

What's the odds in us getting a fine to cover the financial mess that are the SPL's accounts that are due to be published today?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,340 ✭✭✭TheBuilder

And there we have it, the old company fined 250k.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,839 ✭✭✭Jelle1880

Maybe they can deduct it from the prize money they still owe the club.

@BBCAlLamont: The judgement from Lord Nimmo Smith's independent commission will say no unfair competitive advantage was gained on the field.

'Rangers FC did not gain any unfair competitive advantage from the contraventions of
the SPL Rules in failing to make proper disclosure of the side-letter arrangements, nor
did the non-disclosure have the effect that any of the registered players were ineligible
to play, and for this and other reasons no sporting sanction or penalty should be
    imposed upon Rangers FC;'

Doesn't get any clearer than this.

I never expected to see titles stripped but that token fine will obviously never be paid along with the many other creditors.

It's a bit of a joke though, what is to stop say.. Hibs running up a huge bill buying players, winning a few trophies and then setting up a new company where they might be back playing SPL football within a few years - after the inevitable liquidation. They could then claim they won the trophies fairly and it's all apart of their history, even though they would be playing in the same division with clubs their "old club" owed money. Seems like a shi*e enough system.

It might even be interesting if the SPL/SFA decided to take a good look into the running of the other clubs in it as no one would want something untoward to come out in the years to come. I am sure the clubs wouldn't mind ;)
