    hi,

Driving home from work this evening my megane would just lose all power/aceleration when I tried to speed up to overtake.. it wouldnt actually cut out but drop back to say 20kpm.. Id give it a couple of seconds and away she'd go again until I speed up again and when I hit 3.5k revs it would cut back to 20 kpm fairly quickly even if i had my foot to the floor..I learnt(quickly)that if I slowly built up speed and stayed at 60-70 kpm i was ok and it didnt slow down.. Im nervous now as I have to travel on the motorway tomorrow and Im thinking I'll have to cancel my trip..anyone have any idea what the issue is so I can suggest it to a mechanic..
also can anyone pm a good renault mechanic to look at it as main dealers i heard are rip offs..
    thanks

No black smoke at all, just quietly lost power very suddenly.

What year and model is the megane? Petrol or Diesel?

My guess is that the coil packs are packing up.

    Any warning light on?
Coil failure should cause an engine management light to come on.

No warning light coming on, I did have to have a new epu, I think it's called , new dash put in last year.
I just took it around the block there to see if I was dreaming it but the problem is still there. I noticed that once it touches on 3k revs it quits on me. Drives grand if I keep it below 3k revs.
How much will new coil pack cost??

When my coils on my Laguna went I'd no warning lights. I got coils in a breakers for €25 a coil pack. Took about ten mins to swap over.

Just to keep you updated. The problem is sorted, the fuel pump was on its way out. Had it replaced by a mechanic specialising in renaults . He was very reasonable too

Thanks for that. Quite often we never hear what happened. Glad you're back on the road.
