    yes,

    BUT

that's the republic that the IRA used to swear allegiance to when they were saying murdering and blowing up,

    NOT

the Free State or the 1949 republic.
I know, all the more reason for them be illegitimate.

And yet within two or three short years, the shepherds guarding their flock had somehow morphed into wolves.

The Provo's detonated 22 bombs in Belfast over a period of 80 minutes on 21st july 1972 - killing 9 people and injuring 130 others. The targets were a bus station, a hotel, a filling station and a religiously-mixed residential area on the Cavehill Road.

It's easy to just wish it would all end , looking on from this side of the border .

If a foreign armed force were walking up and down my street and crouching behind my children ,eyeballing my missis down the scope of a rifle . I think I might take up arms , but that would be suicide in such a militarized part of the British empire . I'd bring it right down as close to 10 downing street .

Don't get me wrong , I think the British people are very likable .I was born in Liverpool , came over here in the early 70's,and got bullied by kids for my english accent.Yet they all FOLLOWED english footy teams

.I have been up north only about 10 times twice for interviews to join the british army ,at 16 and again when I was 19 . Never joined.

I was brain washed by RTE . I had no idea what was really going on up there .
I have confessed much more than I think is good for my health . There ya go ,

    2 points:

    1. Having a day to celebrate the Irish Republic/independence is a great idea.

    2. Having Sinn Fein with anything to do with it completely invalidates Point 1.

Mr Ó Snodaigh said this would bring Ireland, which currently has nine bank holidays, closer to the European average of 11.

The Irony: we celebrate our independence day, in order to fulfill the quota given to us by our european overlords.

The most disgusting part of being an Irishman, is after having fought for almost a millennium for our freedom, we hand it over willingly to the eurocrats less than a century later. Unbelievable!

Party spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh said the holiday would be on 24 April, the anniversary of the reading of the 1916

I don't know about fitting in an anniversary which would include the glorification of the Provisional IRA and their deeds . . . . . . .

Now if they left out the Provo's, it might (would) be a little more appetising for many more people.

The country didn't become a republic until 1949 and it wasn't announced outside the GPO, it was announced in Canada.

It may have been anounced in Canada, but it was declared outside the GPO.;)

If Ireland was not Declared a Republic until 1949, why are the Shinners looking for for a day off in 2016?

Definitely looking for votes or diverting attention away from Gerrys financial problems.

SNAFU ( Sub Normal And ****ing Useless )

Get back to work you lazy. Fookers, you don't warrant a day off

Maybe we could have a Traitors' Day to mark the signing of the bailout for foreign banks by FF/GP.

Ha ha, loving the discomfort of the partitionists over this.
I said it before, sooner or later they will have to face the fact that they are as much a part of what happened here since 1916 as SF, The Loyalists and both Governments.
Fair play SF, keep upping the ante. 'Partitionist Trolling'...I like it.;)

What a load of rubbish. Ok, fine, take up arms against an army who are treating you like sh*t. I understand that.

But, they attacked innocent people. They attacked their own people who had nothing to do with "foreign armed force were walking up and down my street".

That alone defeats any argument they had over a struggle to rid themselves of an enemy.

I know I'm wasting my time saying this because arguing with someone who defends the IRA is like rowing a boat one handed.

They were nothing short of the worst kind of scum there is.

If you expect people to believe you were born in the 60's or 70's that's fine. But you are arguing your points like a 15 year old.

Why not propose IRA day or murder day? Sin fein would know more about that than a Republic day.

Id personally think the person who bases their political outlook on "im in favour of the opposite of what they say" is the one lacking credibility.
I mean look at that poster earlier who said its a good idea but not if SF are involved. so SF can keep coming up with good ideas but certain people wont accept them because they came from SF. talk about cutting your nose to spite your face. And these are the type of people who have the gall to call SF supportes brain washed. no wonder this country is ****ed.

As for the holiday, great idea. not much chance of gettin it in the north though. well just have to all call in sick

    partitionists?

are they akin to securocrats :D

it sounds like from what you're saying that everybody who doesn't agree with Sinn Fein will be gotten in the end.

They'll be gotten by their own hypocrisy. It's happening already, watch Enda when he is under pressure from an elected SF TD in our Dail. He knows the game is up, the real republicans are inside the door.

Correct , no chance of getting the day off in the North. Why , do you think you would get the day off?

Or we could have Slave Labour Camp Day or Let the Priests Rape Our Kids While We Turn a Blind Eye Day.

FF, FG and Labour could all get together and be all nostalgic at letting the RC Church terrorists run amok.

Are you referring to the SF TD who has a major question mark over his finances, and whether or not he was a member of an illegal organisation.

I don't think the Taoiseach has anything to fear from a bunch of rabble rousers with no policies, other than their proposal for a Bank Holiday.
