Using an online calculator for Marathon Race Pace?

    Because I havent been running for while I am trying to workout what pace \i should be using as my Marathon Race Pace in my training program...

    How accurate is mcmillan or other formulas? I am a bit sceptical...

    Reasonably accurate especially for training purposes. For a race it assumes that you've done the correct training. There are a couple of other prediction tools available here too.

    It wouldn't be far off the mark for most distances, but the best I've managed in a marathon is 2 and a half minutes slower than my McMillan time. It definitely does assume a good base of training, a proper marathon training phase and good running conditions on a flat course I'd say.

    I run comfortably at McMillians sub 3:10 training paces. I will not run a sub 3:10 in London.

    Yeah I imagine I will be of a similar fate. I am running Cork marathon but have only just started back training after an extended break...I can comfortably train at McMillan paces which suggest I could run a 3.3x marathon.

    I am not as optimistic but will probably target a sub 3.45

    I agree, if I had really solid base training done and followed a strict plan exactly then its possible but that wont happen, at least in my case. Will reference back to this post in June for the craic
