If you don't want to look at it then don't

    It specifically mentions children.

If people don't think internet porn is being viewed by and damaging children then they are naive. I'm not sue what can be done to tackle this but I am glad wiser heads than mine are making an effort.

They always mention children when they want to censor or ban something, regardless of whether it actually affects children or if it bans it for adults alike
"we want to ban low cost drinks in shops to prop up the pubs. How'll we sell it? We'll say it's for the kids, underage drinking. Great thinking there, off we go"

    Bit of parental supervision tbh

simple you set up parental control software to filter it out, but no lets target the adults instead

wisdom: don't let children browse unsupervised.

so they are banning 90% of the internet?

It's not going to happen, so no. It's a small, albeit varied group of people who are in favor of banning it.

Are you being sarcastic? Which is more backward.. a silly idea backed by a minority of politicians to ban internet porn, or the failure of successive governments over the course of two decades to introduce legislation regarding abortion? It's been legal in Iceland since 1975!

In a country that cold you'd have thought activity, however onanistic would be encouraged.

They want the state to do their parenting for them. Maybe thats why mums go to Iceland?

Wasn't there some study conducted once in America that showed the cities that had the highest rate of internet access (i.e. porn) had the lowest rates of sexual offenses? Well, it was on Penn & Teller: Bullshit so how true that is is an entirely different thing.

Em...surely you realise kids can browse the internet via other avenues than their parental homes.

The above statements are very shortsighted and naive in my opinion.

So is banning the internet because parents haven't thought about filters or the fact bans can probably be circumvented fairly easily

They should just ban porn and be done with it.

Pure filth is all it is.

I'd imagine the price of hoors would skyrocket!

Surely that's where the smart money will be in future.

I'm not saying they should ban it.

I'm just stating flaws in those arguments.

Personally, I don't think they should ban any of it.

I do think parents should use filters, but they should know their kids will find a way if they want to see something and this is where actual parenting comes into it.

    You would think so, yeah.

It's kinda symptomatic of an increasingly nannyish social engineering experiment playing out in some Nordic societies. In a push for absolute equality and an egalitarian utopia of sorts, countries which once appeared enlightened and forward-thinking have kinda become a wee bit repressive, counterintuitive as that may seem. At least that's how it appears to me - I've never lived there though, so could be waffling out my asshat :D

No, you're right. In most Nordic countries a bottle of beer and five people is a party. The national sport of Sweden is suicide. Only Finland has it right.

Or you could increase sexual education so people will know what's normal and not normal, or porn and real life sex, or so on so forth.

I'm not sure if anyone can agree on "normal" sex. Most people seem to think using porn is normal, and that it's a part of their real lives.

Iceland is a pretty liberal country. It seems like a strange move to censor or filter the internet.

Children have sex at 13 and, in cultures gone by, have gotten married at 13.

Not suggesting for one second these things are right but how much damage could watching porn do? And have you any evidence to suggest it does?

I remember at 13 or 14 talking about porn in school. Everyone watched it, and my school, from what I can tell, didn't release 800 sexual deviants or otherwise damaged teenagers into the world.

Why would you need porn when you are surrounded by beautiful Icelandic women?

Iceland is working on banning Internet pornography, calling explicit online images a threat to children.
'"There is a strong consensus building in Iceland," Halla Gunnarsdottir, an adviser to the nation's Interior Minister, told England's Daily Mail. "We have so many experts, from educationalists to the police and those who work with children behind this, that this has become much broader than party politics.
"At the moment, we are looking at the best technical ways to achieve this. But surely if we can send a man to the moon, we must be able to tackle porn on the Internet."

Iceland sent a man to the moon?!
