Tone Knob Issue

    Hi,

    Any help greatly appreciated here...

    The tone knob on my electric guitar causes the signal to cut-out slightly everytime I use. It only happens when I touch it. It's also quiet stiff and puts up a little resistance around the halfway mark. Is there any way I can fix this or do I need to replace it completely?

    Sounds like the wiring's dodgy. You could resolder the connections on the pot, and maybe lubricate the pot's shaft. Yes I did just say that.

    Was that a Valentine's themed response or are you just generally of filthy mind!!


    Thanks again, gonna go and grease my shaft / fiddle with my knob and try elicit some nice sounds while I'm at it...!

    OK you perves!!

    the breaking signal when the pot is touched is likely a broken wire or dry solder joint.

    the stiffness (behave!!!) part way through rotation is the shaft off axis so the knob is rubbing on the top or scratchplate.

    I'd replace.

    Any idea how much it would cost to get the tone roller pot relaced or repaired by any chance?


    I was thinking of dropping in the jag to get it replaced/repaired in Goodwins on Capel Street, Dublin. Do you know of any other good spots for guitar repairs that won't fleece me?

    It's a pretty quick and cheap fix and wouldn't be surprised if they done it for free but sometimes just jiggling around with wires can solve stuff or having a little look yourself and seeing what the story is
