Why not buy one where you land. Whenever I have been in mainland Europe where small town has a phone shop and just buy the cheapest one like a €20 nokia. Depending on the country your going to you might get one in a supermarket. Or if your in a biggest city had to an area where it has a large immigrant population and buy a sim free one that you can use in Ireland.

Because it won't have a SIM card. OP can possibly port their number to the new SIM obtained at airport.

Plus they are in T1 also would be your best bet for a mobile at the airport

Depends if you want the phone for making calls to local numbers in the destination country or for receiving calls from your home country. Actually either way it will be cheaper to have a local phone number as you'll get charged international rates for both making and receiving calls between your home country, make the person who wants to call you pay for the international rate with a foreign number.

Cheers all. I ended up buying a €10 Nokia when I arrived and out credit into it. It did the job finest - it actually worked out cheaper than roaming for the week.

P.S. Vodafone in T1 is now closed and Dixons only sold sim-free smart phones.
