No loco yet has been painted,077 is ready now for paint but still not finalised, the spec pic had the old logo with smaller logos on all cab sides same as 112 but gray,it will be a while for 078 to appear as not much has been done with it.

I would love to see / hear double heading 071's pulling ftright.

Has it ever been done? (Apart from break downs)

I use to remember the 121's & 141's back to back pulling freight and passenger trains. (Rosslare)

A lovely sound, two v8's belting it out. No gms on the rosslare anymore. I don't think they are allowed to run 071's in tandem, now that would be a sight and sound to behold!!!

Nice to see IR promoting their 071 class.

I don't think it was ever allowed due to weight issues. NIR 111 and 112 have worked in multiple though, as have 208 and 209.

yes, back when the rosslare line had real trains before them horid rickity 2700s came along, the mark 2s could have lasted a good few more years at least if looked after properly or they could have just kept them on the route until legally it wouldn't have been safe to run them anymore, now with the 22000 class railcars operating most services things have improved so heres hoping for more services in the future

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

I think the mk2s would have needed a good bit of work done on them to keep them going longer than they did (that carriage type in particular is notorious for corrosion problems).

In saying that, their replacement with 2700s did nothing for the image of the line in terms of passengers. I actually remember some non-enthusiast people saying asking when the 'old trains' would be back, assuming the 2700s were only a temporary fix! The 2800s and 29000s were at least an improvement in terms of reliability if not comfort. Now if they could replace the remaining 29000 links with 22000s and increase the frequency we'd be away.

It seems the 071 and 111 class leaders did on one occasion too. Never seems to have happened on IÉ metals tho (not counting locos hauling failed classmates).

In fairness one locomotive is more eco friendly than 18 lorries...

Not sure why they're advertising it in Busáras though!

by the time they were withdrawn yes they would have needed work, but in fairness they were wrecked for as long as i can remember, i always thought it was just the mark 1 type had that corrosion problem? i do believe their are still mark 2s in service in the uk but i think its just the e and f types.

completely agree, passenger numbers seemed to go down once them rickity things came on to the line, i myself don't find the 2800s comfortable at all but they are liked by people round here i think, the 29s aren't that comfortable either but the engine roar does it for me all though traveling to wexford is way to much comfort wise (i hate the sound of the other commuter railcar classes though) well with supposibly 21 carriges spair at any one time they can well spair another 22000 for the line (of course if they bothered with the selective door opening but lets not go there again as were wasting our time)

It is a good idea to put that message over generally, as not only the public seem to be unaware of it - some rail enthusiasts seem to doubt it as well !!!

No better place to ask, Class leaded 071, any sight of it? A loco i havnt seen in months. Passed by Ballina station today 086 and 075 are in the yard there.

That's only a rumor that I heard. Don't know how accurate but the Mk4 DVT report was spot on.

It has to be either 077 or 078 if any of them got it and they are still in Inchicore.

084 needs a repaint badly but they will probably wait for it's overhaul before it gets it.

Look'ee what I spotted on another site.

    077newlivery.jpg

The loco in question will be 077. The logo may still change and it has it's full EU ID number. Hope that changes too. It's not like out rolling stock will ever me mixing with EU stock abroad.

No word when she will be out though.

bit of a boring livery. Why the need for change already considering the freight colours aren't even on all them?

I think it looks better and will weather better than the silver cab ends are doing.

6 years ago when they overhauled 12 of the class and repainted 14 of them they found that the body work would need major work due to rusting and corrosion problems. The tender for that work only went out a few years ago and they have only started working on it in the past 9 months or so. May aswell take the time to repaint them into something that won't show up the dirt as much I suppose.

You think they would have learned what the A class looked like when they were all silver. They just ended up black with dirt, impossible to keep clean.

Ah here. The emd engine while being a fantastic and reliable piece if engineering were built in a time when the word Eco hasn't even been invented. The yanks aren't exactly known for their Eco friendliness especially during the 60's and 70's.

Doubt it. They'll leave them as it as they match the Mk4 stock. What baffles me is why only one 201 got painted into the new Enterprise livery and NIR did that themselves. IE won't bother with 206,7,30 and 33, although 207 and 233 got their yellow faces though. I think NIR left 209 alone because it's HEP is wrecked and did not work the Enterprise for a long time and only came back when the EGVs were instated.

In saying that one guy painted up a 00 scale Murphys Models 201 in the 071 freight livery and it looked really good.

It's in for an overhaul. Last time I heard it was out was in late August, early September on driver training runs. Must have been around and about a while after that.

This is a Lima 00 scale of a 201 repainted into IE freight livery. It was in the old IE orange livery when new.

Not bad, can almost imagine it in real life.

Is she on test runs or back in regular traffic? Can't wait to see her.

Should that be "timber train" ?

No 077 is getting a few final touches before it goes into traffic. I would say at least another week or so.

well its been a while since i posted up on here but when it comes to getting word of the 1 and only 077 getting an overhaul i had to come on and say its some loco it must have 9 lives ,,,the amount of times i seen posts up about failure and been towed to inch ,,,but it always found a way out of there after .

Thought the last time she went in that was it Months went by and nobody had any news on it. now hopefully she can have a new lease of life and go through another 9 lives again:):):):)

seen a recent post about 071 gone in for an op thats a strange one thanks for the update on that ,,,,

There are 710 and 645s that meet Tier 2, and I think one if not both can manage Tier 3. It's starting to look like Caterpillar (now owners of EMD) are moving to high speed engines for Tier 4 rather than squeeze some more out of the EMD platforms but I guess we'll see.

073 worked the Waterford-Westport empty timber train today blasting through Castlebar at 1910.

Saw two 071's in Portlaoise one in orange livery, didn't catch the numbers.

    072 failed near Foxford today.

Sure did, 072 ,075 and 086 in Ballina yard with 073 in Westport. (the 1815 HN-WPT also failed at Sallins tonight causing considerable delays,Westport pax eventually transferred at Newbridge to a different train....about 2 hours late into Westport tonight)

The orange one was 084. The only thing knocking around the network that is still that colour.

075 is the Ballina yard pilot loco. It may swap out 072 if they can't get it going again.

    Hello there

Long time lurker in this forum, I've seen some lovely photos over on Chris Playfair's smugmug page of 111 and 113 on ballast duties up on the Derry/Londonderry line that might interest you
