    Hi lads,
Would anyone here argue that, for a dairy farm, a dirtbike is better than a quad? We have quads here i,d just like to see does anyone have an opinion on using dirtbikes instead.
    Cheers

stability and carrying ability would be the principal advantages that quad would have over a 2 wheeler you know jump on her and off her to close gate, leave it rolling out a gate and back on her.

you get to other end of field and someone stuck and you need to return for a chain or cattle broke and you need sledge, bar, wire etc in a hurry.. bring bike back and go all the way back in tractor and transport box with the gear.. you'd have it done on the quad in that time.. just imo

Over here we have two wheelers and four wheelers on the farm, 99% of the time id jump on the two wheeler, once you get used to them ud hate sitting on a quad. Great job for herding cattle, grand for putting up and taking down fences. We never had a quad at home and I prob would buy a two wheeler before a quad. You can carry a sledge etc on it no bother. Ok doesn't have the carrying ability of a quad but is a lot handier in other ways. Also a miser on petrol compared to a quad to. Only thing is she is a lot easier to fall off! If I was buying one I'd be buying a 200cc electric start.

We have a quad and a dirtbike. I would argue that bike is actually safer as you are more tuned in on bike as opposed to quad and is brilliant for herding. Quad is better for putting up breaks as you can carry pigtails and put them up without stopping or getting off. Obviously no towing with dirt bike. People think quads are safer but only in a straight line, we have a speed limiter fitted for safety.

Have both here :D. Quad very handy for alot of things, like spraying/fencing, I'm on it most days at the minute moving around strip grazing fences. Very handy to hook on the trailer also, I wanted a gate out of a wet enough field the other day, fired it in the trailer and not much damage done, the tractor would have ploughed up that field!

The dirtbike I have in fairness is mostly for fun, I used to race them competitively, handy around the farm but it wouldn't replace the quad in my view.

delaval, I'd agree fully about the safety, 4wheels gives people a false sense of security, people tend to respect bikes abit more! But I've crashed off both ha, I'd take my chances with the 2wheels anydays in that respect :P (Have left them lunatic days behind me now though!).

Heres my current bike: (Not me on it though :( )

hope thats the mx track and not the cow tracks,

brother used to race the cow tracks around the farm, until he came across a wire across the lane to let cows into paddock, close lined him straight off, took a good while to get back on
