Something I recall from clubs back in 90s and early noughties. Wondering why they got rid of them. Yes they were God awful but so is a lot of stuff that they keep doing there.

Was there a commercial reason for it being dropped?

Clubs want you to be going mental and spend a fortune on drink.

Do want you to be going mental and spend a fortune on drink.

This, and people don't dance now either; they just point at the ceiling.

Aren't they just a teenage disco thing? Didn't think they'd feature in nightclubs.

They were a staple of every nightclub up until the early 90s at least. If the DJ didn't turn down the lights and play three slow songs, there would be a riot, no joke.

A riot is probably an understatement.

Oh they were horrible - I hated them with a vengeance. They were three slow songs every hour as far as I can remember - so you would have three slow sets each night.

Going from jumping around the place like a looper to shuffling in a circle being pawed up by drunk creepy men. Thank fcuk I got out of Ireland when I was 17:rolleyes:

When I came back 10 years later - they were gone.

Yeah yeah feck those inferior Irish and their slow sets. Drinking coffee and snorting coke late at night in posh upmarket cafe's is so much more sophisticated and with the times

Did this happen in Dublin clubs as well or was it more of a country thing? I thought it was just at teenage discos as well.

aahhhh, the old parochial hall disco. girls on one side, boys on the other. slow set comes on, scan the opposite side of the hall. the beads of sweat rolling down the back of your neck through fear, as you bravely stride across the empty floor to ask one of the girls if they would like to dance. time stood still, as she decided whether or not to accept your invitation. with a smile, she accepts, and you're the man, hand in hand out onto the floor, her hands slip up behind and around your neck, yours around her waist, time stood still for those few songs. all going well, small talk going well, then you lean in for the kiss ....when suddenly, and without warning,.... "its a crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy night",.... kiss blast out through the speakers. ahhhh ****, chance lost, she slips back to her buddies, you go moshing with the boys, pretending you don't care , but, well, theres always the next slow set!!

Up in Mary's disco back in the day! Used to hate walking into the grounds, they shone a bloody halogen light towards the entrance, if you have beer on you it was over, it was zig zag all the way up to the bouncers to tell you, go home!

    Classic slow set...

The kids are too yoked out of their heads these days to slow dance to Wicked Game.
