right folks, made up my mead yesterday, i used 6lb honey 4lb mixed berries, 1 gallon of water, and a glass of orange juice, i added the yeast and when i checked it this morning no activity what so ever, same this evening.

should i let it longer or should i be worried, i used a fermentation bucket instead of a carboy, i have the bucket filled up to the 2 gallon mark with everything included, have an airlock fitted etc, have i too much room in the bucket?

Do you remember what temperature it was when you added the yeast?

The ratio of honey to water may be an issue. In general you want 4 parts water to 1 part honey, or the honeys natural anti-fungal/anti-bacterial properties can inhibit your yeast.

Honey can be quite hard to dissolve too. There may be very little O2 for the yeast to grow, so shake it vigorously.

should i add more water, anything else i could do to get it going, i have given it a good stirring and it has started to show some sign of life, i read on line than i should let the air lock of until it gets going
