Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Couple of points:
School education thesis:
2 - ( Buy some time) there are tools dedicated to helping amend incorrect file names. If you need more time for a paper, its generally best to just ask for it.
3 - (Get your thumb drive back) this is plain bad advice. Firstly you can only use it if you haven't lost it yet; secondly it won't work at all if the thumbdrive is deliberately stolen, which happens.
So here's an advice that will prevent it from happening. Get a small pouch with a carabiner clip, like a soft camera case. Pick something that you like the look of, the plan involves owning this for quite some time.
Inside it attach (sew/superglue/hotglue/nail nails don't work so good) a retractable keyring, I picked one up in Woodies for about €2 that looked like this.Finally attach any USB keys to the keyring, and clip this carabiner into a rucksack, satchel or handbag - and leave it clipped there, permanently glue if necessary. Some rucksacks have elastic loops for holding pens nearest their zips, so consider using one of them for this.
I know people who have tried using a retractable keyring attached to a trouser pocket and it was so bothersome they gave up on it. They were not at all happy to lose their USB sticks afterwards. The extra complication of doing it this way means you're using stuff you like the look of, you always know which bag has your USB stick and exactly where in it is is and you don't quit a good habit because its gotten inconvenient.0 -

+1 million on the glue. Someone comes over and says, "can I borrow your thumbdrive", instead of offending them by saying "Oh I only lend it to special people", simply say, "Sorry I can't, its glued". Simples.0 -

I don't have a problem with lending my USB sticks so much with people who think asking me to lend it is no-big-deal. So I do this instead.
"Can I borrow your thumbdrive?"
*Hold out your hand, palm up*
"Huh?"
"You can borrow it. But I'll require a deposit. €50."
"€50!?"
"I'm just as serious about getting my thumbdrive back as you are about getting your fifty back. You're welcome to take it or leave it."
The hold-out-hand-gesture, initial silence, and genuine politeness are each important. If you do it so its like there's some widely known unspoken rule they're ignoring they may be too embarrassed or obedient to protest. Most importantly they'll not want to ask you in future if they've they're the kind who just can't get their sh't together and make a habit of this.
If they haggle, the correct response is, politely but firmly:
"I'm sorry, but €10 isn't €50."
There's nothing as frustrating to argue with as a murderously self evident fact and no way to change the scope of the argument. They'll give up, and its unlikely they'll be back.
If they do actually agree (its never happened, but I don't rule it out), I presume you've no problem lending it like me, the cost of the drive is a lot less than €50 (if more, demand higher; in multiples of €50. Nice crisp notes matter.), and all data on the drive is already backed up (so even if it accidentally erased everything it will not be a problem).0 -
