What I'm looking for is a working machine, not a thing of beauty. While I'm really fond of the look of the Samsung Ultrabooks, I feel you're paying more for the aesthetics than the functionality. Not interested in Macs, as I do a lot of Windows programming.

My requirements are: 2.5ghz processor, 4gb RAM (though higher would be better), 15.5 " screen or larger, Win 7, ability to watch HD videos, no obvious known problems.

Unimportant: hard drive size, solid state drive, hip / coolness factor, 32 or 64 bit, mobility, warranty

I'll be using it for light web development, programming (visual studio, but nothing that takes hours to build - small stuff only), web browsing and watching video files. I won't be using it for gaming or for any heavy graphics or video work.

I've had Sony and Samsung machines in the past that I've been happy with, and a Dell machine that I wasn't that happy with. I'm open to other models.

I've been considering this Sony from Amazon.co.uk (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0085RP7YO/). There are couple available from Amazon's warehouse deals for £415, and it seems like a good price.

It's worth adding that I'm looking for a machine that will run well for a year or so - I might be in a position to buy a heavier, more expensive machine at that point. Any recommendations or advice would be welcome.

This appears to tick most boxes, except Windows 7

Number 1 seller on Amazon, appears to be a great price.

I'm no expert though, anyone else have a view on this laptop.
