The country is gone to hell. The ****ers robbing old pensioners and now actually shooting a garda

Its about time something is done about this.

I agree it is the culmination of a few months of horrible lawless robberies mainly targeting old people and now a garda has been killed. Hopefully this will be a Veronica Guerin moment and efforts are ramped up.

These scumbags have absolutely no fear. The weapons found in this country verifies that - rocket launchers found in a warehouse in Clane a few years ago. These cash in transits need a serious overhaul, the DF escorted ones included. How is anyone expected to be on high alert for nearly 18/19 hours? Unfortunately as sick as this makes me feel, that a poor man cannot go out & do a days work without getting killed, but its not surprising.

Lets hope they arrest the right people then eh?
Could we just keep this to condolences without the need for poltical point scoring?
A man is dead, murdered by thugs, I hope they get caught quickly, and they will get their day in court which is more than this poor man got. RIP

Why is a Garda detective working in a credit union

    Ex-garda, read what you're quoting.

I agree. We need the same zero tolerance approach that New York took a few decades ago.

But I'm afraid things won't change because of this incident. Over the next week or two, there will be plenty of lip service paid in the dail and the media but it will all be forgotten when the next scandal hits. It's sad but true. History just repeats itself in this country. Most governments don't know the meaning of the word "change".

Are you for real. Stop speculating. The reports are clear they were escorting the van and were fired upon killing one of the gardai. Enough fairy tales.
Are you for real??? Hes entitled to speculate given that all the details would not be given out... You believe what you are spoon fed, others are entitled to speculate.

What fairy tales? Do you think every money transfer has a Garda or Army escort? Do you think they usually assign detectives to duties that don't involve a crime that has actually happened or there is reason to believe will happen?

Sorry mate, in one breath your saying you hate people speculating and then in another your speculating out of your arse. I'm giving up reading your posts you haven't a clue what you are talking about.

I've more insight of what happens with transit in as I used to work in the industry . so go to bed son.

Anyway dragging this off topic I'm done replying to you.

As a resident close to the area where the poor man was shot - I feel thoroughly uncomfortable to know his name (thanks to Twitter) before the majority of friends and family.

The concept of the guardians of peace through moral grounds. Disgrace to see how someone dishonored that so much by taking a life.

The power of the internet is a bit too much sometimes.

    RTE:

It is believed four armed men were waiting outside to rob the credit union and moved to hold up staff at gunpoint as they were leaving work.
One of the two detectives approached the raiders and was shot dead.

    What an absolute scumbag, tragic.

Listen I heard the news before it went up here. Enough points scoring I've been spoon fed nothing. God help this mans family its a terrible tragedy which doesn't need edgits making up fairy tales.

How is it political point scoring ffs? people in the thread are hysterical and all but calling for suspects to be lynched from the nearest tree, people need to keep their heads

You mentioned being done 3 times, have you been drinking dad? I don't like the "Oh they wouldn't have attacked an army escort" thing because obviously they wouldn't try it with one known to have an armed escort like the couple of times a month Dundalk town centre basically shuts down for those uncommon cases.

You say you worked in the "transit industry", which bit am I incorrect about?

S'pose 12 years for 'manslaughter' if caught, maybe 3-4 years suspended by a judge who is a dick like a lot of judges..

Lets stick with the facts for a second there. Its 40 years for capital murder mandatory.

Some say it was not a cash-in-transit raid , .

The Det Garda answered a call from panic-alarm button

Not an ex-garda. A detective on escort duty.

He's not talking about the Garda that was shot dead tonight. A poster said their father was a Garda and now works in a Credit Union.

    Very weird one.

The person was talkin about an ex-garda who now works in a credit union, I can see why their heart skipped a beat.

Yes its pure weird that guards answer a call from a panic button. That's pure weird. Your posts belong in the conspiracy theory forum not here.

This is tragical news. A terrible event like this certainly puts a lot of things in perspective. May the man rest in peace.
Important issues certainly arise out of this event but they are for discussion on another day.

Weird that a detective would be in the nearest car to respond to it, I'm not looking for a conspiracy or anything.

RIP to him, as horrible as it may sound I'm glad I don't recognise the name.

    No mercy.

RIP to the garda in question. Just doing his job.
Fair enough, but can we bury the guy first before we start planning the 'war'.

My condolences to the mans family it's a terrible faith to befall any family. However I don't see how it's any worse than a staff member or any other person in the state being shot. I understand that he died protecting the state and I thank him for that but the people on here getting outraged should be as outraged at least once a month with the number of shooting going on in this country
