George Clooney and Brad Pitt and Pat Kenny and other men around 50 are still considered "sex symbols", there are not many women around 50 that are considered in the same way..

Do men age better or do women just appreciate older men better?

    Men in general, no.
Movie stars with tons of money and facial creams and personal trainers, yes.

Connery was in his 70's and still considered a sex simbol. Then again, I'd tap Jane Fonda. I mean she's Barba-fcuking-rella.

Youth just isn't as important a factor in what is considered attractive.

Men normally prefer young women, theres many an over 50 women who look amazing for their age, we just don't see it because of all the young 20something year old women out there

Without a shadow of a doubt men age better we are the stronger sex after all.

If you look after your skin and have a healthy diet then male or female should age well.

The only difference is that men can get away with a few wrinkles as it can add to their distinguished look, women need the flawlessness to keep on the youthful side....ah the joys..

There aren't many men that I could honestly say look good for their age only a celeb.....Robert Downey Jr, lots of older female celebs look great at the moment but most is all down to botox and Dr plastic.

    Topics covered in this thread:

Irish women vs women in other countries (usually Eastern Europe). Lazy stereotypes. "I went on a stag to Bratislava and etc etc". "I live in Oz and the older women are smoking hot". Irish women ugly, fat, lazy etc

Countered by men in other countries vs Irish men (less vocal). "Married a Spanish octogenarian and he's hot!" Irish men fat, ugly, lazy, drink too much etc

"Here comes the science" from one or two "informed posters" about plastic surgery rates/skin elasticity/lifestyle amongst cultures/nations/ethnic groups. Will obviously reference differences between hunter gatherer vs agricultural/post industrial cultures.

The picture brigade will educate us on hot men/women who smell of death but are still "hot".

Mod steps in and says "cool the jets".

Somehow, somewhere, abortion will enter the discussion.

    :)

Always see lots of hot milfs coming up to late thirties/forty.
By the time they hit 43 they are no longer hot. They just seem to lose it in them 3 years.

Yes, women tend to be old and wrinkly in the bingo hall and men distinguished in the funeral home.

I'll see your George Clooney and Brad Pitt and raise you Nastassja Kinski and Isabella Rossellini. Pat Kenny, though, nah.

I shouldn't make such a sweeping statement perhaps, but I think women in this country are extremely good looking. When I go to town I see women everywhere who could be models. They're sooo good looking is it any wonder that there's no work being done anymore. Everyone's too bloody distracted!

I'm like a fine wine, I get better with age. I know some people who age like sour milk... Ha Ha.

Yes, I do think men age better than women.

It's all about how much exposure you have to the sun. I know some girls in their mid-20's that have the skin of 90 year olds, waaaaaay too much sun.

If by movies stars with tons of money and facial creams and personal trainers you mean men who don't abuse their bodies with alcohol, a terrible diet and who exercise regularly then you have a point.

I bloody well hope I they do!

No they don't, but they tell each other they do all the time, and women fall victim of the opposite.

Most men who harp on about how older men are like fine wines blah blah, are middle aged men trying to get with/justifying getting with much younger women.

There are exceptions, but not nearly as many as some men have convinced themselves of.

I don't appreciate being hit on by someone 20 years my senior trying to impress me with his worldly wisdom and decades of experience.

Some big age gaps work really well, but you still hear the odd guy talk about how much he loves his wife 35 years his junior. If he loved her that much why would he condemn her to pushing his wheelchair or changing his diaper, possibly followed by 20 years of widowhood?

Men who look after themselves and stay healthy age better. But there are a lot of men out there with beer bellies.
That said I'd still tap Rachel welch who is 72! Plastic surgery has played an important role in her life anyway!:)

Kim Novak, aged very well also. Here she is at 74 back in 2002.

Unfortunately, she has had a ten year fling with a plastic surgeon's knife since then.

Some people age better than others, I don't think it is gender related...but more genetic, lifestyle and attitude related...
