Castle on Castle street. Bray

Can anyone tell me where exactly was the castle on castle street,Bray, and I believe there is a photo of it, any idea where it is on the net would be appreciated.

The first Anglo-Norman settlement in Bray was carried out by Walter de Riddlesford. In 1173 de Riddlesford built a castle in Bray. This castle is no longer in existence. It was built on a rocky promontory at the rear of a house named 'Clonmore' on the Herbert Road where the site can be seen by walking up Church Terrace, also to be seen in Church Terrace are St. Paul's Church and Churchyard and the remains of Bray Military Barracks Nearby is Bray Bridge.

Information on that one also in Arthur Flynn's book 'A History of Bray' page 14

.....Little Bray Castle built in 1459 is no longer in existence, the site is now a supermarket car park Photo on link above.

Little Bray Castle
Built in 1459 with a grant of £10.00 it was in use as a Police Barracks in 1836 and then converted to a private residence in 1905. Demolished in 1937

The map shows the site of the castle on the Herbert Road not the one on Castle Street.
The castle on Castle Street was located were Superquinn car park is now.

Theres still a visible wall of the herbert rd castle on church terrace (walk up beside macaris)

The little bray castle is long gone. Cant think of the books name, but was compiled by henry cairns with pictures and stories of the castle. Call into henry in the town hall bookshop (florence rd) and he'll surely have a copy.

The castle on Castle St is marked on this map at the corner of what was Castle St and Back St. The whole area was demolished in the early 70's to build Superquinn. I might have a photo of the castle knocking around somewhere, I'll have a look during the week.

If it's the B&W photo from 1937 you're talking about then it's the castle on Herbert Road you can see in the background, not the one on Castle St.

That isn't the Herbert Road castle in the 1937 picture. It's the bell tower of St. Paul's church.
