Thanks, IBA. Does anyone know why the DHCP will not switch on. It was the same with the previous firmware version.

Did you try to do it manually?

Go to Menu/Network Local Setting and then tun DHCP to ON

Is it possible to stream my TV pic to my laptop using the 250 and if so how do I do it please?

    Thanks

Thats the only way that I know - but thats the only way I know - sorry

So you turn it ON and then it just automatically turns itself OFF again after a few minutes/period of time?

A message appears saying 'setting DHCP...' then it switches to off after about two minutes

I have two 250's, maincodes V1.18B6 and V1.19B1 - can anyone please tell me, if I update the firmware will the same patch work for both [and where can I get it/them]
AND - IF I update, will I lose my channel list? [or any other similar screw up]

    Ferguson updates are here:

    http://www.ferguson-digital.eu/en/download/HD-Satellite-Receivers/Ariva-250-Combo/

and it will work on both.

As far as I know, you will have to do a new channel list, but I stand to be corrected on that

Yes, you will have to do a new channel list. One of the guys posted a channel file around christmas. Let me know if you cant find it.

Did you try inputting static ip addresses and DNS settings? Dont need dhcp on then.. use your laptop to get the ip range and set the last digits to something high or over 50. DNS setting can be the same as your router or gateway if it still dont work then you need to get DNS setting from your router or from ISP

Go into the menu, set DHCP from off to on. Press the back button this will force the router to give it an IP address almost instantly. Now exit out of the menu, by pressing menu.

Noticed a problem with the 250 recently. When I turn on from standby the picture is set off to one side of the tv screen, leaving a black strip about 5cm wide, it is usually cured by a hard reboot and doesn't happen every time.
I'm wondering is something starting to fail as I'm getting close to being out of warranty.

IMO most warranties are not worth the paper they are written on. EG most warranties are only for one year but really electronic kit like TV, STB, PS3, AV Receivers should really last for at least 5 years plus. So if a piece of kit fails after the warranty, one can still argue that the piece of kit was not fit for purpose as it should be expected to last more than one year and the seller should replace it.

I know a person whose TV broke after 5 years and he brought it back to Currys and they replaced it on the basis that it should last more than 5 years

No. Linux boxes can do this.

    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.000
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    DNS Presferred: 000.000.000.000
    DNS Alternate: 000.000.000.000

Mine are similiar for IP, Subnet & Gateway

But for DNS Preferred and Alternate, I have these fields populated.

Also, I dont know your particulars so I dont know if you should have NewCamd Client selected

What have you got for DNS, Does it begin with 192.169.1. Is the App selected make a difference for internet connection. Thanks

I cant really help you much coz Im no expert so I can only give u little bits of info and hope it helps u a bit

My DNS are 089.101.160.005 and 089.101.160.004

Yes maybe the app selected makes a difference, but I cant remember the name of the original app is.

Maybe your best bet is to do a Factory Reset and then update with the latest firmware

Looks like i fecked the box up. I changed some of the network settings and rebooted the box. Now it will not start and it displays ASH on the front. Anyone know what this means?

Dont worry, this can be fixed

I dont know off hand how to do it so google ariva ash issue.

But I do remember you will need a Null Cable (I think thats what its called) and you connect the ariva to ur PC and reload the Ferguson software

So dont worry, it can b fixed, just do a little googling -even google ariva ash issue boards.ie

Thanks Iba, have been googling this. I have a null modem cable, but cannot seem to find the software for loading the firmware. THe link on Ferguson site does not work. If anyone has done this on the 250 please let me know what software you used.

So the latest is when i try download the firmware i get an error 'Set stb memory error' as soon as i turn on the box. The cable i have is a usb to serial. I read somewhere that i am better off using a straight serial to serial but i don't have a serial port on my laptop. Any help appreciated, the missus is losing the head with no TV.

AFAIK only serial to serial will work

Edit: Correction this should be null modem cable

Thanks for that Tony. Have you ever flashed with a cable before? Just noticed that the port settings on my laptop are different from the STB software, bit rate, parity, etc. I changed them to match, but still the same. Not sure where i'll find a PC with a serial port.

Yeah I found laptops to be better but I'm not sure why. STB if hes around is the expert on this stuff

Edit: if you have a friend with a box you can do it with serial to serial too

    Hi all,

I'm a complete novice to this. Reason I'm doing it is that our provider is very expensive.

My plan is to install Freesat and Saorview into house and cut TV connection off the list of bills. I have an idea how to do it thanks to TVTrade.ie (thank you to them!) Just need direction from somebody in the know on equipment I'm going to buy.

    • Sat Dish will be a standard Sky dish
    • Have cabling left over from Sky (years ago) with F connector.
    • Going to get indoor aerial for Soarview.
    1. But, need pointers on box. I've seen the Ariva 150/250. Is it a decent box for the job both quality and price-wise? Why might I choose the 250 over the 150?
    2. Is it as easy as it sounds to set up? Literally stick dish on house, wire to box, find satellites, tune in and chill out?!
    3. I need to set up 2 T.Vs with signal on the other side of the house too. Is there an option to send combined Saorview/Freesat signal from the Combi box to other T.Vs or will I need to have separate cables and boxes for each T.V.
I know this has probably all been discussed but it's tough to find exact info. you need on such a big thread. Thanks for patience! Hope I've posted in right place.

    :)

Only differences between the 250 and 150 are

on 250 "Remote control that can be programmed for up to four devices, tv etc

Front panel channel name display" 150 has channel number only

    Thanks Tony!

Does anybody know if I could tune in European channels also with Dish pointed at the Astra sats for Freesat? I'd love to get some of them. Think I read you could. Can the Ariva do that also?

    Thanks!

AFAIK Another diffference between the 150 an 250 is that the 250 has more Cam slots for subscription cards - perhaps Tony could confirm

If you get a bracket added to your sat dish and get some more LNBs (one LNB 4 each sat u want) you can get Astra 19 if thats the one you mean.

Theres another thread here that may be of interest to you:

Personally I would use a seperate box for each TV
