Same applies to any drink. You could give me 55 year old Glenfiddich and I'd still think it tastes shíte.

No your missing the point, you might think 55 yr old glenfiddich tastes like ****, and I would agree as I can't stand whiskey,
But it is still going to taste better than say southern comfort or jim beam

As a non whiskey drinker even I know that.
while personal taste will tell you that you don't like something, it doesnt mean that its bad, you simply do not like it.

I do not like wine, whiskey or brandy, but I know xo special reserve will taste nicer than napoleons from the well.

And if I had to drink brandy neat because I was afraid that mixing it with diet coke would give me cancer/make me fat then I would opt for the xo special reserve.

When I drink vodka Ill drink vodka and coke, and any vodka will do Smirnoff red, red bear, polish monkey it doesnt matter. When I drink it neat or with ice then ill opt for a premium brand. Premium does not equal expensive, it means better. so absolut, stoly, finlandia, or Smirnoff blue/black all of these are still cheap vodkas, but they are better standard then the stuff you would usually mix.
If you still believe that you cant stand the taste, then try another drink FFS
    I hear Jamesons is nice

You really don't get it. Glendiffich will not taste better than Southern Comfort to someone who prefers southern comfort. It is about personal preference.

Some people prefer the taste of certain things irrespective of what quality they are perceived to be.

I have tasted very expensive vodkas in my time, but I would still have no interest in drinking them straight.

I also drink Jameson and coke. Have often drunk Jameson with ice, could drink it all night. But I chose not to, as drinking straight liquor on a night out doesn't interest me. Again, all goes down to personal choice.

Nothing to do with quality, branding and all the other shi.te you are spouting.

If you think im spouting shi.te then youre deluded.
you argument is that just cos you personally dont like vodka then all preimum brands of anything cant possible taste nicer.

Personal preference does not change the fact that premium quality anything will taste nicer than the non premium version, you still may not like the taste.

Its not a comparison between budget own brands, its a comparison between different grades.
the difference between tesco finest range and tesco own brand. The premium will inevitably be better quality, some people may still prefer the taste of the own brand stuff but that doesnt change the fact that the premium branded stuff is better.

Like I said, I cant stand whiskey, or brandy. But If i 'had to' drink it neat ill choose the stuff on the shelf rather than the stuff in the well. I wont like either one, but i know that the premium bottle will be better than the well bottle.

Your not supposed to drink the house vodka neat, its not made for that. Thats one reason why it tastes rotten mixed with water. The premium brand is supposed to be drank neat or mixed with water. because they make it taste nicer.

And seriously, if you have such a problem drinking vodka maybe you should switch drinks. You cant trust diet coke, and cant handle vodka. Try tequila and lemonade, brandy and milk, gin and tonic. or will the bubbles tickle your nose?

There's lots of evidence. Just google it. Here's one example. There's lots of contrary evidence i know but I'm always sceptical of research in favour of billion dollar product.

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2359769

Personally I never feel good after drinking a diet coke so I have my own reason for believing the serotonin claim.

That study is inconclusive at best and only carried out on a sample set of 20 people. You also acknowledge the several other, larger, studies performed that have found no link between aspartame and appetite increase.
Your earlier post is, at best, sensationalist and unhelpful.

That fact that you don't like or react well to a particular product is no call to be decrying it as "scary" and inventing stories about it. This board is often shrouded in unproven semi-facts, old wives' tales and fad-based misinformation as it is, no need to ratchet things up any more.

Its not dehydrating however it offers no hydration benefits. (According to the boffins)
Have you any links on this? I found nothing but the opposite, there were a few people saying the same thing but nothing to back it up.

Seems like it could be a misinterpreted study, like the "8 glasses of water per day" thing.

If somebody is dying of thirst, I'd imagine diet coke, while not ideal, would help prevent him dying.
+1, since diet decaffeinated soft drinks as so popular you would have expected to have heard warnings about it now. Like those survival programs warning against drinking seawater.

The alcohol is 7 kcal per gram of alcohol (I think). If my maths are correct. A 35ml shot of vodka is on average 40% Alcohol, thats 14g.
Pure alcohol is less dense than water, so 1ml weights less than 1g.

    http://www.jacn.org/content/19/5/591.full
Non-Caffeinated, Caloric and Non-Caloric Beverages on Hydration

18 healthy adult males ages 24 to 39, on four separate occasions, consumed water or water plus varying combinations of beverages. Clinical guidelines were used to determine the fluid allowance for each subject. The beverages were carbonated, caffeinated caloric and non-caloric colas and coffee.

Conclusions: This preliminary study found no significant differences in the effect of various combinations of beverages on hydration status of healthy adult males. Advising people to disregard caffeinated beverages as part of the daily fluid intake is not substantiated by the results of this study. The across-treatment weight loss observed, when combined with data on fluid-disease relationships, suggests that optimal fluid intake may be higher than common recommendations. Further research is needed to confirm these results and to explore optimal fluid intake for healthy individuals.

I knew I was forgetting something!! I think 1ml Alcohol = 0.8g or something like that. So for my sums multiply by 0.8 for the correct figures. Thanks

Not a huge fan of the book Skinny Bitch but the excerpt found above regarding aspartame put me off for life. I used to drink gallons of diet coke but when the dentist warned me off I discovered that my 'generically' mildly problem skin vanished to be replaced by a peaches and cream complexion once I stopped drinking the muck. I am not an expert on this but the article makes for a thought-provoking read.

Edit: that link isn't working for some reason but google aspartame and skinny bitch and you will get it

ive given up the stuff since new years. I dran kit too often and would mill through a 2l bottle alot.. its addictive but ever since im stopped i feel better and enjoy just drinking water and tea. the odd time would have mi-wadi but im finished with the fizzy drinks, too many cons with them, have felt like crap drinking them, i drink theyve contributed to teeth problems, and there just full of crap.

for people drinking the odd can or whateve rits fine but if you find yourself getting 2l bottles etc its best to be avoided
