One of the most annoying things about shopping in my local Supervalu is their habit of constantly interupting the piped music in the store with advertising announcements. They have a fairly good enough playlist but it's impossible to enjoy them as they constantly get cut off by annoying recording's of some wan chirpley telling us about special offers.Could they at least do these announcements in between the songs?I was in there yesterday when Led Zep's Stairway to heaven was interupted about 5 times by bloody promos.

My local Tesco plays cover versions of current pop songs. It's bizarre, the songs sound almost the same and then you realise someone else with a similar voice is singing them. Is it cheaper to play cover versions? Why not just play muzak or something?

i go to supervalu/tesco/lidl/aldi or where ever for the purpose of buying food or whatever, nothing else. i try to get it done as quickly as possible, so that i can get the fook out of there.

if you actually are listening to the music, your spending far too much time in there.

Fcuk it, I'm going to get a pack. I'll report back on the music.

This is what they should play on a loop.

I shop in aldi, I don't think they play music or even do announcements which is fine by me. I don't really understand why shops feel the need to play music, especially bad covers of pop songs. I never worked in a shops but I would imagine listening to that **** all day would be soul crushing.

On that note I was in tesco to pick up a few small buts before Xmas, they were playing Xmas music, which is bad enough, but in the middle of it they played this church hymn that was so depressing that I felt like eating a few poinsettias before walking out under a car for good measure to ensure my untimely death.

Why would you advertise for a supermarket in the actual supermarket? Is that not a bit like preaching to the converted?

I think it is actually if you have a lot of stores, just pay the cover bands once off for their recording and not IMRO/whoever does music rights in the uk for the original artists.

The thread is about the supermarket making announcements over the music.

    The announcements are advertising.

You then posted "Supermarket in advertising shocker"

I naturally assumed you were pointing out that the supermarket in the OP was merely advertising, like all supermarkets do.

I then responded, questioning the effectiveness of a supermarket playing advertisements to its own customers.

Please tell me where I have gone wrong on my timeline.

I believe Coldplays last album was recorded with getting supermarket airplay in mind.

Always find aldi and lidl has an eery/ creepy silence as people shop. Feel like bringing in a sound system and playing some tunes while going around, liven up the place.

And what's the story with the two tills for the 30 odd customers waiting ? They're not THAT cheap to shop at, that's just greedy!

Why are supervalue advertising supervalue when you are already in supervalue?

Something to do with cheaper licensing fees if it's cover versions than the original artists I believe

It is usually advertising particular products for sale, which people browsing might not have seen. Just like lidl have booklets on the way in, I read them when I go in now -since I often missed stuff I read about later. Same in other shops sometimes I buy stuff I only knew about because of announcements.

Supervalue is a bit of a misnomer in fairness, fairtoaveragevalue might be more accurate.

I think that's just a German thing. Even big supermarkets here would only have one or two tills, and usually only one is open.

    Drives me feckin' verruckt.
