Unemployed boardies would you actually work in aldi/lidi or factory for minimum wage

    Reason i picked above is because aldi/lidi seemed to be depressing and a factory can be tough work

    Yes, it is always easier to get a job when you have one, so if you have to work somewhere you dont like it is the better option.

    As mentioned Aldi/Lidl, although the work isn't great, pays better than minimum wage.

    What about Hotel work? Minimum wage, long hours, pretty dismal work.

    I have in the past worked for Lidl, and I found them great to work for.. good money and they treat their staff very well.

    There's no shame in rolling up the sleeves if needed.

    If you're looking for another job in the same field, maybe, but working full time makes it harder to brush up your skills/network/prepare a good portfolio for the work you really want to be doing.

    I do it. Hours can be a bit strange but apart from that it's ok. We haven't had one Irish person hand in a CV in the last 6 months though.

    Years ago it was mcdonalds or burger king that people would not be caught working in, now it seems its lidl/aldi ??

    Don't see nothing wrong in working in any of the above places of employment.

    Me too! Been at it 2 and a half years, will be leaving this May. Quite a lot of things I don't like about it, but i'm sure it varies from place to place.

    The floor staff is about 50:50 Irish and non-Irish, but the accommodation staff actually doesn't have a single Irish person at the moment AFAIK. There was one earlier in the year, gave up after a couple of weeks.

    I'm lucky in that I don't have a family to support, I'm a student, and I only pay a very small amount of rent (50 a week) because I live at home.

    That said, if I was offered a job scrubbing toilets, that fit around college hours, for minimum wage, I'd take it. I'd have more pride in scrubbing toilets than I would in sitting on my backside getting the dole.

    Never understood the attitude of people questioning where other people work. They are work, doing their bit and contributing to society. Who gives a **** if they dont take home big pay packets???
