Delighted for him when he won the Portugal masters! However according to his twitter account feed he went on a bender in Dubai last week with his mates. Considering this is the european tours flagship end of year event, could he not have gone on the rip next week?

FYI, Shane didn't touch a drink all last week, he brought his two closest friends out for a golf holiday, pretty typical of the <mod edit> on here to jump on it saying he's been drinking for a week ahead of a huge tournament. He's got a virus, easily picked up in the middle east.

.....didn't touch a drink all week? How naive is that! Are you his mammy btw?

Think you will find Gorfield in a better place than most to comment on that and I certainly would have no question to doubt him.

Funny thing is I know one of the lads Shane was with last week. And yes they were golfing and stayed off the sauce, shocking as it appears to you.

It's good to hear he's staying off the alcoholic beverages. Hopefully that will help with his fitness.

There is actually a virus going around here at the moment, I've had it, as have some of my friends and colleagues. He could easily have picked it up...

Nothing but talking about playing and how much he was looking forward to this week

Just hung onto his top 30 place for the season, that should see him exempt for next years Open Championship :)

    Remains 57th in WGR.

Should keep him in top 64 for World Matchplay. Hopefully, he can push on from here and reach the top 50.

Still ahead of Harrington in world rankings.

Hopefully, they'll both make it to the WGC World matchplay. Could be an interesting battle to see which one stays as top ROI golfer over the next few months.

Finished the year in 52nd position, just missed out on the masters invite.

Almost certain now to make the matchplay.

Would need to be top 50 on April 01st for Masters invite.

So close to top 50. If he'd skipped Hong Kong or if he'd finished top 15 in Dubai instead of having to pull out he would have made the top 50.

That's a very serious allegation to make. Or is it intended as a joke?

Are you suggesting his stay in hospital for a few days was self induced by drink? Bit of a wild statement to make there...

You will learn quickly that even the tiniest criticism of shaner will cause coniptions in this thread.

you are the person who mentioned drink - which i think is a bit way off the mark.

accusing the lad (in the wrong) of missing a tournament because he was dehydrated from drink will most definately not be tolerated here.

That is why I asked if that was what he was getting at and if it was... I think its a bit of a wild statement!:confused:

it was an extremely wild statement and one i'm not too happy with to be honest. Lets leave it at that.

I'd be fairly sure that if Lowry was reading this thread he'd be busting his backside laughing, not assembling his legal team!

That said, the old adage about never committing something to print that you can't fully stand over still holds good. Even on websites.

you never know though, he may laugh or he may be rightly annoyed.

    Exactly.

Just eagled Par4 18th to go joint 4th. Prizemoney for 4th is €111k and worth about 9 world ranking points - I recon that would place him 48th after the weekend:D:D
