Is a weekly wage of €700 considered a 'resonably well paid job'?

So what kind of job would a person make €700 after tax on?

The ESB must be making that per week I would say.

600 is a fantastic weekly wage

In my opinion, 600 gross a week isn't fantastic, it's ok.

600 net is better, but not great.

A typical retired teacher gets a pension of 700 gross.

I work with dozens of people on 75k gross with 70 days leave - nice job.

I'd consider it a very good wage if I was on it.. I've a family, mortgage, car etc to provide for and my wage doesn't come close to that.

    Oh I'm a public sector worker too ~ where's me bleed'n riches?.

What do people spend their money on?

Back when I was working full time I'd spend no more than 250 a week, including food, bills, cinema and petrol and rent

What do you's do with the rest?
Interesting that cinema is included in that list of important things. Surely it should be the Sky subscription.;)

I've never earned that much in a year. I think the best ever was the late 20k. Fortunately my wife earns a bit more than that. Yes I married her for the money.:D

It's important to remember that many people on pay like that or lower actually depend on overtime to bring that up and pay for those little extras. Loss of overtime during the current recession is affecting a lot of people.

if you are a cleaner with 1 year experience it's very good, if you a a senior IT person with 20 years experience it's crap.
It's all relative OP, the average industrial wage is 34k before tax so it's better than that.

Ahh the boom years. I used to make that every week until made redundant. Trying to get by on 180 a week after that was a painful transition .

If I was earning that much, I'd be saving about 400 a week, after splashing out.

Decent trolley of shopping could be the guts of 200 quid. VHI is 60 per week approx. Meal out once a week is 80 to 150 plus 50 for a babysitter.SKY is 30 a week. Diesel/tolls can be expensive for those commuting long distance especially.Car repayments and mortgage. Some people are paying the equivalent of a mortgage in creche fees(not me thank God).Utility bills.Car and house insurance.Savings into Credit Union.Money for holidays and Xmas.Kids need shoes, clothes etc all the time as they grow.Doctors and prescriptions when required.Dentist visits.Spending money in pocket for general stuff for me and the wife. The occasional takeaway. You obviously don't have kids/wife or own a house.Makes a huge difference:)

I work about 22 hours a week and I come out with about €190 after deductions, I have a son and a fiancee and we live in a nice rented house. I pay €100 a week to my share of rent and shopping, €30 a week to loans. So about €60 to myself on a good week. I get by fine.

If I was taking home €700 a week after tax I'd be living like a fucking king.
